Not a huge deal, but I found it interesting that Mickey Kaus at Kausfiles (http://www.slate.com/blogs/blogs/kausfiles/archive/2009/07/03/5-6-7-palin-theories.aspx) is aware of the Palin - Scientology connection. Writing about Palin's recent resignation, and linking to the Gawker article (http://gawker.com/5261511/sarah-palin-throws-her-scientologist-adviser-under-the-bus), Kaus writes (http://www.slate.com/blogs/blogs/kausfiles/archive/2009/07/03/5-6-7-palin-theories.aspx):
P.P.S.: I'm waiting for someone to claim it was all the Scientologists' idea (http://gawker.com/5261511/sarah-palin-throws-her-scientologist-adviser-under-the-bus). So far, noone. But the night is young. ... Just shows how mainstream, even in a passing, offhand way, Scientology discussion has become.

. The word scientology does not appear in this USA Today article.
. Palin's scientology connection was not disclosed, when she ran for VP of the US.
. Palin is not going to get away with hiding filthy-scientology again.
USA Today, July 5, 2009: Sarah Palin has no intention of retiring from public life, the soon-to-be ex-Alaska governor's spokeswoman said Sunday, but top Republicans are expressing befuddlement at the decision by one of the party's leading presidential prospects to give up her job...

I wouldn't refer to Slate.com or Gawker.com as 'mainstream' media. They both agree though, Sarah Palin is connected to scientology.
Since she resigned as Alaska's governor 8 days ago, there have been DAILY national articles written about Sarah Palin, in the Associated Press (AP.org). Not one of those articles used the unmentionable word scientology. In fact, I get no returns whatsoever, when I search AP.org for 'scientology'. I would at least expect something about Cruise or Travolta.
Please do though, provide URL's of 'mainstream' news articles, where you think 'scientology' is mentioned in a, "a passing, offhand way".
PS: Sarah Palin won't get away again, with concealing her connection to scientology, in a national election.

You said, "wasnt [Sarah] palin as dumb as a fence post", 3 things come to mind:
1. You used the word, "wasn't". I don't assume that she's finished in politics, or past tense. Especially because she's had national media exposure, every day, for the last 8 days, since resigning for governor of Alaska. I think something may be up, so I wouldn't rule her out.
2. I don't think Palin is, "dumb" at all. But as an inexperienced governor, she ran on a national ticket. And got blindsided with tough questions, from seasoned reporters. She probably got away with schmaltzing answers at the state level, but not with these pros. (If you want to talk about, "dumb" look at McCain, he's just more professional at schmaltz.)
3. The main problem I have with Palin, is she tried to hide her exposure to scientology, while being on the ticket for 2nd in line for the presidency of the USA. With the assistance of the media, they didn't lie, but the f***ers didn't tell the whole truth either.
Palin probably got sucked into scientology with lies and deception, just like many of us ESMB'ers did. And I wouldn't be surprised if she's being blackmailed, harassed, and mind-f***ed just like a lot of scientologists, and-or Exes.

Palin is dumb.
She clearly, unmistakebly, did not know what the First Amendment meant. She said it protects us from criticizm.
Her recent statement that if she was president she wouldn't have to put up with accusations because "The Department of Law" protects the president from accusations!!!!!!!
She thought Africa was a country.
She wasn't give tough questions by the media. She couldn't even answer simple ones-- She complained about Supreme Court decisions but when asked to name one, just one, she couldn't.
She said she read all the national newspapers, but when asked to name one, she couldn't even do that.
Her answers to simple questions were not much different than Miss Teenage South Carolina.
She is dumb. She may be cunning and shrewed when talking to right-wing religious fanatics, but she is dumb.

You can laugh at Sarah Palin all you want, but just realize that you are simply falling into her trap of World Domination.
L. Ron Hubbard thought he had it all figured out by creating a totalitarian religion of zombie slaves to worship him while make him rich. Little did he know that Humanity was on the blink of evolving into a high level of consciousness than religion could ever take us. This level of higher consciousness is known as Reality TV Train Wreckism.
Up until this point Sarah Palin has been just setting the stage for her master plan. Politics, World Governments, Pandemics, Natural Disasters, War, Death, Religion est. they are all well and good and at times may even seem important, but none of them can compare to the importance of Trailer Trash Reality TV and the Train Wrecks in generates. Once Sarah Palin and her dysfunction family's Reality Show starts next fall, she will dominate the world through brain numbing entertainment. And if Michael Jackson's death has taught us anything ... nothing is more important to man's evolution and spiritual development than brain numbing entertainment.
