how could anyone have any privacy with, like, 4 or 6 to a room? They appear happy for the cameras, right? Happy happy people?

Scientology feeds on the young.

After a while you develop a different attitude to privacy, especially when you are "telling all" in session.

Yes, they mostly do seem pretty happy, don't they? The youngsters, anyway.

We were happy too!
At times... like them.

The photos from Flag appear to have been taken some time ago (2004 + 2005 according to notes), so I’m guessing that many of these people will have left staff by now.

As for looking happy – well, recalling how I felt when I first joined the SO, I’m not surprised. I had a purpose and believed that I was part of the most able group on the planet and that we were going to change the Universe. It was very exciting.

But then reality came crashing in. A couple of years of having no money and living in cramped conditions without any prospect of things improving can be pretty soul destroying.

Getting photographed is evidence to the mind that someone recognizes your existence as someone valuable enough to spend time photoing. That has to be a change from the day to day routine of the Sea Org...

I'd say that these are photos from an OOT most likely from LATAM.

You can tell from the interiors and some of the exteriors that they are in one of the 3 motels where the OOTs stay. Most of the shots appear to be in and around the Clipper motel which is the largest and the worst of the motels as most of the rooms have 6 beds, a tiny wardrobe and an even smaller bathroom.

Other locations include:

The inside of the CB where all of the meals are eaten.

Exterior of the Fort Harrison.

The auditorium of the Fort Harrison during an event. Most likely the Christmas banquet as that is the only time they would have dining in there. I went to that and it was sensational especially after coming off the regular meals. You pay $50 a head or something similar, well worth it.

THe bowling photos are either of a libs day or possibly a day at the mall for xmas shopping. I can't remember if we got a whole day (doubtful) or half a day where they took us all to a mall to let us do xmas shopping.

Ah, that's very interesting.

Could you kindly go to the page and click on 'add comment' (and say this). (You don't have to supply your email address or anything like that) and it will be useful for all readers of the site to see.

Thanks man.

I actually have more Flag photos, from separate occasions. I hope to find the time to do this soon.

OOT = Outer Org Trainee = A student from a Scientology Organisation (Org) who is at Flag for training and is then supposed to go back to their Org and work.

It would be interesting to find out the exact percentage of people who go to Flag, finish their training and return to their org and finish their contract. From my small window of experience I would estimate that number to be below double digits.

OOTs are people from Class V Orgs (regular churches) and from Advanced Orgs (Sea Org) about a 60/40 split. Everyone follows the same schedule and as students the schedule allows for exactly 8 hours sleep unlike if you are just on post in the Sea Org whereby sleep is a privledge not a right. Being an OOT is as close to be in the Sea Org as you can get with out actaully being in the Sea Org. But it's probably as good as the Sea Org gets for those in the Sea Org if you know what I mean.

LATAM = LATin AMerica. Within the Scientology Organisation the world is divided in Continents (Conts) for administration purposes. (namely East US, West US, ANZO (Australia, New Zealand and Ocenia), LATAM, UK, etc)

To clarify my post I was saying that I think the girl would have been from a Class V Org somewhere in LATAM as opposed to just being a regular Sea Org worker as an earlier poster had assumed.

When you're an OOT you know you're only there for a (hopefully) short time so it's an adventure and you feel it's a privilege to be at Flag!

For me the long hours, cramped conditions and crap food were bearable if I were moving closer to going home and getting back to a "real" life.

And I met lots of people there that I had lots of fun with - we were all there for the same purpose and we were the "elite" of Scientology in training.

It's actually easy to be happy in such circumstances - reality is something you aren't even on nodding terms with.
