Speaking in Tongues and Scientology Auditing
02 August 2007

Tongues (I have concluded), for the most part is an activity of saying the first words that come to mind, however foolish they may sound. During Scientology auditing a similar event occurs. For example:

"Name something that's worse than a headache."

This is a Scientology run process that is supposed to remedy a headache. After saying the first thing that comes to mind, a remedy occurs and one moves up the tone scale. Continuing to talk in "tongues" may bring on a sense of laughter. This laughter is often credited to the Holy Spirit.

Any thoughts?

I think you are exactly right.

I've often looked back on my own auditing and how I came up with incidents in auditing. They were instant-read type thoughts and images.

Pretty soon you are trained to come up with the "right" incident faster and faster.

They are both a kind of reverie, and they both require a different state of awareness than your normal "walking around, looking both ways before you cross the street" kind of awareness.

Many religious practices like auditing and speaking in tongues put you in this state of mind.

I have to say... Tongues is a lot more effective than Scientology. Scientology pretty much limits your responses and it's all question and answer. Tongues it's just on and on and on, then laughter sets in.

Plus, if you keep going, you can get so full of laughter that it's unbelievable. You start shaking, and all sorts of stuff. Scientology gives you that little "chuckle chuckle" and then the session is over. That usually lasts only a few hours, or days if you're lucky. The effect of tongues can last a days, weeks, maybe even a lifetime.

That's cool. I didn't know that.

I would like to giggle for the rest of my life...

You could check out a pentecostal or charismatic church. I've been going to the local Vineyard church for a little while now.
