View Full Version : The Influence of Psychiatry

I recently read some articles by LRH about his view on psychiatry. Needless to say, these articles are very harsh.

In a nutshell, LRH accuses psychiatrists for just about everything that's going wrong with the world today. He describes them as cold-blooded people who wish to make everyone their slaves. He says they will take away our basic personal freedoms; they wish to obtain complete obedience just because they claim they are the authority. He says they claim to help people but only want money. CCHR documentaries state that they sell their products, only to lead to the sale of more and more of their product. And LRH says they do all this because they do not respect the laws of the society.

And if you wanted to know WHERE psychiatrists were operating covertly, all you have to do is look for the loss of freedoms and rights, where people are treated brutally and without compassion, and where the laws of the state were being bent and broken.

But if you take all this as a valid theory, what conclusions can be drawn about the operating basis of the Sea Org today?

They are selling their products (Congresses), only to lead to the sale of more and more of their product (Basics, then the ACCs, plus the individual sets sold at events, the Bridging lectures, etc). Sea Org Members' freedom of mobility is restricted to the very threshold of the law. They demand obedience by reason of authority alone. (CSW Approval, HCO Orders) They have their own authority for justice (Int Justice Chief), and forbid anyone from using the 'wog' justice system. (i.e. they don't respect the legal system) A Scientologist who breaks the law will face punishment which is reduced to the degree that they contribute to the purposes of the organization.

Any similarities?

Now, the world isn't perfect, but in my experience, the worst treatment I have endured has been in the Sea Org. If this kind of treatment extends ONLY from the covert actions of psychiatrists, then there must be a few of them in there, because I can't imagine how it got this bad.

I realized the same a while back. The SO is exactly what LRH complains about with psychiatry. Only worse, in my opinion. At least with a psychiatrist, you can fire the one you see and report their illegal acts to law enforcement.

Very good points made. My litmus test is what would the world be like if The Church of Scientology was in charge of things. Nazi Germany of the late 30's and into the 40's comes to mind. So does Russia under Joseph Stalin. Would anyone want to live in those conditions, where any opposition would be brutally disposed of quickly and without sorrow?

Yeh, I started writing on a post today (now erased) in which I made a comparison of the inter-woven trinity, Ideology-Organization-Originator:

I also compared "Nazism-Nazi Party-Hitler" with "Scientology-Church of Scientology-Hubbard"

My entrance point was: How is possibly to separate one from the other? Could one part be embraced, and the rest rejected?

Yeh, I know, the comparison is not fair, but not far off. Scn does some good, and they are not mass murderers ... but the cult has certainly earned its reputation.

Here's additional bizarre quotes from Mr Hubbard which reflect his phobia regarding Psychiatry:

"The alleviation of the condition of insanity has also been accomplished now." - L. Ron Hubbard, Hubbard Communications Office Bulletin, November 1970,"Psychosis"

"The names and connections, at this time, of the bitterly opposing enemy are: 1. Psychiatry and psychology (not medicine). 2. The heads of news media who are also directors of psychiatric front groups. 3. A few key political figures in the fields of "mental health" and education. 4. A decline of monetary stability caused by the current planning of bankers who are also directors of psychiatric front organizations [that] would make us unable to function." - L. Ron Hubbard, Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letter, 16 February 1969, "TARGETS, DEFENSE"

"A psychiatrist today has the power to (1) take a fancy to a woman (2) lead her to take wild treatment as a joke (3) drug and shock her to temporary insanity (4) incarnate [sic] her (5) use her sexually (6) sterilise her to prevent conception (7) kill her by a brain operation to prevent disclosure. And all with no fear of reprisal. Yet it is rape and murder. We want at least one bad mark on every psychiatrist in England, a murder, an assault, or a rape or more than one. This is Project Psychiatry. We will remove them." - L. Ron Hubbard, Sec ED, Office of LRH, Confidential, 22 February 1966, "Project Psychiatry"

"'Psychiatry' and 'psychiatrist' are easily redefined to mean 'an anti-social enemy of the people'. This takes the kill crazy psychiatrist off the preferred list of Professions... The redefinition of words is done by associating different emotions and symbols with the word than were intended...Scientologists are redefining 'doctor', 'Psychiatry' and 'psychology' to mean 'undesirable antisocial elements'...The way to redefine a word is to get the new definition repeated as often as possible. Thus it is necessary to redefine medicine, psychiatry and psychology downward and define Dianetics and Scientology upwards. This, so far as words are concerned, is the public opinion battle for belief in your definitions, and not those of the opposition. A consistent, repeated effort is the key to any success with this technique of propaganda." - L. Ron Hubbard, Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letter, 5 October 1971, PR Series 12, "Propaganda by Redefinition of Words"

There seems to be a trend in Scientology of this use of projection as an influence tactic. Accusing another person or group of the negative traits and behaviors they possess and exhibit with the goal of deflecting blame away from their own misdeeds and toward the accused, seems to be the standard response to perceived enemies.
