View Full Version : The Jewishness in Me

I've always been a Jew Wannabe, and this weekend, Yom Kippur, is a big reason why.

Yes, I lived in Israel for a while, and yes, I attended the propaganda sessions on the Kibbutz which brainwashed me against the PLO. I hitchhiked across beautiful valleys with gleaming midevil monasteries shining through clouds. I haggled with Jews and Arabs in Jerusalem over the price of filafil and commemorative crosses, and watched the army drag Palestinians from their shops and homes, and did nothing more than remark at the resemblance to Nazi tactics, later to speculate on the PTSness of it all.

But none of that is what I'm talking about. What I'm talking about tonight, this Shabbat, is the redemption from it all. The time when we can all atone for our sins, if we just accept and allow the most valuable of all religious ideas and holidays - Yom Kippur.

It is the Day of Atonement on which we right ourselves and ask for absolution for our sins against God.

This is a fantastic thing.

Thank you, Jews.

The Logical Song
by Supertramp

When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
oh joyfully, oh playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
logical, oh responsible, practical.
And then they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
oh clinical, oh intellectual, cynical.
There are times when all the world's asleep,
the questions run too deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am
Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
a liberal, oh fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable!
But at night, when all the world's asleep,
the questions run so deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am,
Who I am, Who I am, Who I am

You're bloody well right

God is just you in one sense, and the ideal scene you hold for yourself in another sense.

God is no mystery.

You were THAT, before anything (including considerations) were added to you.

You are THAT, who added all these considerations to yourself.

Usually, your infinitizations and dichotomizations leave me unsatisfied.

But this one, Vinaire.

This one is a no-game non-dualism.

I like it!

By the way, the incident in your avatar...did you ever get that booger?

You seem quite determined.

All the significance that we attach to things, are all additives.

Yes, I got it and I tasted it. It was a bit salty.

(Actually, I don't remember but it seemed interesting to tell you that! There have been so many boogers and so many times... maybe we did it together too.)

So, this question restimulated a whole track booger incident for you?

Suddenly it was nothing but boogers all up and down the track ?

Sigh! I had to find this thread now. And it was off to such a fine start.

I love that Supertramp song. And "Long Way Home" and "Give a Little Bit."

It is called holographic auditing. You handle the whole ridge that extends from present to the beginning of the time track.

"Crime of the Century" I think is their best album.
