Reasonably balanced from ACA. The locals have been invited to come see what it's all about, they seem more concerned about parking. :D

If only those locals could know how watched they will be!!! :omg:
There is probably some PR program with all their names and addresses for sure, as they each got a personal letter. Sigh.
I hope they get so bored they walk out in the middle of the HOOORRAYS!

Inviting the locals is a cost saving measure. Much cheaper than hiring actors to fill the place for their publiciy pics and films.
If the place holds only 600 for special events, 400 locals, 100 local scientologists and 100 bussed in from other areas, and the place will be busting at the seams - at least for a few hours.

"We are bursting at the seams. Interest has never been higher". Really?
I remember you when you were a little girl, if I had asked you then; "Hey Virginia, what do you want to do when you grow up?", do you think you would have said "I want to lie for a UFO cult", huh, do you?
Of course not!
Wake up girl, you've nearly wasted your best years, you're 40 now, aren't you? It's not too late to salvage your own life, but you better get cracking!

That should be interesting. Not so much the parking, but if they are inviting locals, how are they going to keep protesters out? They can't really check IDs to *prove* that someone is a local; or have someone vouch for them; or ask them for the sekrit password; or any other silly games they get up to in order to keep out anyone except the flock.
I assume they are inviting locals to boost the numbers, as you can't bus people in to Oz from other orgs in the US. Oh, this is going to be hilarious. Please please can some locals (heh!) get video cameras inside? :D
Oh, I see that the locals got personal letters. Maybe the letters said "bring this letter in order to get in." Maybe some door-to-door collection of unwanted letters could be done. . . .

Yeah I kinda gagged at the "bursting at the seams" bit.
They are bringing people from all over Oz for bums on seats.
I hope my the few members of my family left in enjoy it - the last flings of a dying cult. It will be something to remember in the coming years, when the truth they know deep inside is no longer able to be squished and squashed away in that box in their minds and they have to come to terms with hanging in there to the last minute....

Long steeped in contoversy, the new Melbourne headquarters of Australia’s Scientology community is opening its doors. In an unprecedented move for the religious group, locals have been given the opportunity to see inside the world shared by stars Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Kate Cebrano – and rumors are flying that some such celebrities may attend.

SCIENTOLOGISTS from around the world are expected to land in Melbourne this week ahead of the opening of a new multi-million dollar Scientology church.
But the church has hosed down speculation that high-profile devotees John Travolta and Tom Cruise would be among the Scientologists in town to celebrate the opening of the Ascot Vale facility this weekend.

It also cures the parking problem for the opening, since most will be locals.

SECURITY was tight yesterday as hundreds of Scientologists and their guests gathered to open the controversial church's new headquarters in Ascot Vale.
All afternoon a procession of well-dressed church members could be seen making their way to the Mt Alexander Rd site, which was guarded by about 20 security guards.
High-profile Scientologist Kate Ceberano arrived about 4.30pm.
The massive compound, which was bought from the Catholic Church for $7 million in 2005, has been renovated at an estimated cost of $20 million, and includes a large chapel, a public auditorium, course rooms and a multimedia public information centre.
Guests - including Lord Mayor Robert Doyle - arriving for the opening were greeted by a small number of protesters wearing masks and chanting anti-Scientology slogans.
"I am here because my friend Kate Ceberano invited me to be here and people should take nothing more from it than that," Mr Doyle said.
But he was attacked by independent South Australian Senator Nick Xenophon.
"He is the Lord Mayor of Melbourne and indirectly he is lending his support to this organisation," he said.

MELBOURNE lord mayor Robert Doyle was a guest speaker at the opening of the Church of Scientology's multimillion-dollar headquarters in Ascot Vale yesterday, which drew more than 50 protesters.
Mounted police supervised the private function in the Mount Alexander Road building as Mr Doyle and guests including Kate and Phil Ceberano were ferried in a back entrance.
Senator Nick Xenophon, who has campaigned to have Scientology's tax-free status revoked, said he was surprised at Cr Doyle's decision.
Advertisement: Story continues below
Cr Doyle said he was attending as a friend of Kate Ceberano, who had worked hard for the city since she was made a Moomba queen. ''People shouldn't draw any commentary from my attendance other than that this was a personal invitation from a friend which has been accepted,'' he said.
Senator Xenophon said he would write to the lord mayor proposing a meeting with Scientology victims.
''He's over 18, he's entitled to go wherever he wants, but to say that he's going there as a private individual because of a friendship with Kate Ceberano is a bit cute,'' he said.
''The fact is that he's the lord mayor of the City of Melbourne and his presence will be seen as a seal of approval for an organisation that has caused so much harm to so many.''
Local newspapers had reported rumours that church director Cheryl Wickens would be joined by guests including celebrity Scientologists such as Tom Cruise or John Travolta.

Thanks for posting. Loved the press they got. The Lord Mayor of Melbourne I don't think fully appreciates (but he's going to) that he just placed himself in a big pile of smelly crap. Raising the hackles of Nick is not a politically sensible thing to do; evidence is such a bitch, especially when you don't know about it or worse, ignore it. Wonder how he's sleeping now? Hope the suck up to Kate was worth it...:duh:

Anonymous post:
I talked to one of the press who were there after the opening event and he said the only reason he was there was to cover a story for the age about how "EVERYONE" who lived in the area were getting parking tickets because of the opening of the Church of Scientology.
Basically, the church got the council to shut down the road behind the building (the back entrance) and so everyone who lived nearby and parked their cars on the sides of the street (legal to do you know) got tickets. Over 90 or so were handing out during the day... including to the press.
The Scientologists tried to get the police to arrest me and a few others who were there after the event (at about 9.30, as sibbo and I was working on press stuff to do with the protest) and two others were protesting. The police came up, saw nothing was going on, got annoyed at Scientology and chatted to us about random stuff, then offered to 'escort' us to the tram stop for our protection, then seeing that Scientologists were at the tram stop also and were trying to annoy us there (even with police there) decided to give us a lift all the way back to the city.
Angry-Scientologist guy was raging hard and lost his cool infront of the cops, yelling at me, etc. The cops at this point basically realized we weren't the problem... the Scientologists were.
The new Church of Scientology Melbourne Ideal Organization was dedicated January 29, 2011, in ceremonies attended by more than 2,000 Scientologists and their guests. Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center and ecclesiastical leader of the Scientology religion was joined by civic leaders and government officials to commemorate the opening of the first Ideal Church of Scientology in Australia.

I think it is great they have finally had their new Ideal Org opening. They needed this org like they needed a hole in the head. Now as the Ideal becomes the Idle and none of the forecast growth happens will they realise they have been duped? I wonder!

Does anyone know the Rates cost of melbourne Ideal Org.
Purchased $7 million
Renovations $20 Million? (that has to be a alteration of the truth )
If it is the truth, what annual cost would the rates be on such a property?
as the org doesnt, wont service the public, how many sets of basics has to be sold
to pay rent to RTC for the public funded donated building(isnt that penalising upstats)and for rates.

Hmm ... looks like the very same suit (complete with cardboard handkerchief) and same cuff-links ... something there is strange though ... I think it's in both pics but certainly the 2010 one ...
He is wearing a wedding ring.

Thanks for posting that video. I'm a stone cold non believer, but that song still gives me goose bumps when I listen to it.
Yes, I am exactly the same (a non believer that melts when I hear this).

That's an amazing amount of votes - they can hardly say it is all apostates!! When I voted there was about 400 total and I thought that was good.

I don't know about a facelift. What I see in that picture is a sick man under great stress. He's being held together with sticky tape I'd say.

What's odd to me is that, despite the suit (and hanky) and wedding ring and Scientology geschmeer, his hair part has switched sides on his head.
What's up with that?
Or, could it be his head is on backwards?

I'm always the last one to the party. I went ahead and emailed Poppy Doyle (yep, that's what they called him when he was trying to run for Premier of Victoria) about my shock and disappointment and told him some of my experiences. I also suggested he tells his mate Kate that she should check out ESMB for some true stories about $cn.
May as well go and email the others on the list, specially Justin Madden and Gary Bouma.

Good idea Paul:)
I just did it.
By the way, you need a Aussie zip code to log on as a guest. I found one for Sydney. It's 2000 (must not be too many people there!!:D)
Nah, it's just that the post office knows how to run things out there!:p

I emailed the LM of Melbourne a few days ago and he replied to me yesterday, and I responded to his reply.
Doyle's reply to me:
"Thank you for your email regarding my attendance at the opening of the Church of Scientology on 29 January 2011.
I attended the opening following a personal invitation from my friend Kate Ceberano. As Lord Mayor I became friends with Kate through her appointment as the Moomba Queen and since that time she has done a tremendous amount of work for the city and associated charities.
I am a very loyal person.
When friends ask me to do something, as far as I possibly can, I will do it, even at the cost of some personal controversy or discomfort.
I know Scientology is contentious and it is not a church that I practise in. People shouldn't draw any commentary from my attendance other than that this was an invitation from my friend Kate Ceberano which I accepted.
Following my attendance I have accepted the invitation of critics and ex-members of Scientology to meet and hear their stories.
I am sorry if I offended or disappointed you by my attendance.
Robert Doyle
Lord Mayor"
My reply back to him:
"Dear Mr Doyle,
Thank you for your response to my email; I appreciate the fact that you took the time to reply.
I understand the impulse to support a friend. I'm sure Kate Ceberano is a good friend to you too. However, Scientology has not been a good friend to countless other Melburnians who have been distressed, harrassed, brutalised and made poorer (materially and psychologically) by Scientology. The millions of dollars spent on buying and renovating the Ascot Vale premises was made possible, to my certain knowledge, at the cost of a decent salary and standard of living for Scientology's current and former staff in Melbourne and elsewhere in Australia, whose remuneration compared to working hours would astound you. As Lord Mayor, these people -- including myself -- would expect the sort of loyalty from you as Lord Mayor that you gave your friend Kate.
Once again, I urge you to read some of the stories of the experiences of ex-Scientologists shown on www.exscn.net, and to ask Kate Ceberano herself to read them too. She may get into trouble with Scientology if she does, but that in itself tells you something about Scientology and the way it organises itself and instructs its members.
Yours sincerely,"
IMO, his excuse is a bit pitiful and he doesn't ever acknowledge the inhumane practices of Scn other than to say it is "contentious", a word I used in my original email. Would he go to the opening of a Children of God hall? Would he have lunch with a catholic priest accused of molesting school kids? Would he attend the opening of the Osama Bin Laden mosque? The analogy is not so far-fetched.
