There really aren't that many, just a handful who are well past their prime and receive way too much attention.

For a cult that wastes so many resources and places such importance on attracting celebrates, I'm still waiting for them to finally produce a single Academy Awarding winning actor.

I could understand where it made financial sense a decade or two ago for the cult to spend all that money attracting celebrities as a marketing tool, but nowadays nobody looks to celebrities to form their opinions, when it comes to celebrities in the internet age, people are just looking for a good train wreck to entertain them. Who wants to be associated with Tom Cruise or Kirstie Alley?

I don't know about "so many"... Is there any credible sources that the proportion of celebrity Scientologists relative to the whole population of celebrities is higher than that of the Scientologists relative to the general population, and if so, that it is higher for Scientology than other, hum, let's say, "new age fads"?

What kind of person gets in to Cabala just because Madonna is?

What kind of person gets into Scientology because Will Smith might or might not be into it?

There are role models and opinion leaders, they are not ageing poor actors, B Movie 'stars' or people that once did an advert.

If the Orgs were full of people trying to get a glimpse of a celebrity the stats would soon all fall to ground.

Swankier buildings and z list celebrities are getting the cult nowhere.

So many? Small handful of people who make their living by pretending, faking it. Humm...sounds very much like Obscene Thetans.

Richard Forbes and Milton Katselas started the Beverly Hills Playhouse together in the mid 1970s. A lot of actors and actresses have passed through those classes. They were both Scientologists. They are both dead now. Richard died of cancer in the late 1970s. Milton quite recently. A relative of ours took classes at the school, and within a few months was a working SAG AFTRA carrying thespian.

Tom Cruise got involved because his wife, at the time, was a class Vlll auditor from the Old Guard days before DM.

John Travolta got in because he was in a movie with Joannie Prather, who was a Scientologist back in the 1970s.

The Ribisi kids, Vanni and Marissa, because their father and mother were / are Scientologists (no longer married). Their dad, Al, used to work at CC in LA before blowing the Sea Org several times.

Juliette Lewis because her dad and mom were / are Scio. Geoff lewis, her father is a terrific character actor.

You can ask Purple Haze, on this board, about Karen Black.

None of the above really answers your question. The real answer is the lower level stuff really helped them individually and that was the cheese for the trap.

Fantasy Du Jour...

A press conference is called and in attendance is Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Kirstie Alley.

They announce that they have left Scientology because it is a scam. They detail how it makes fraudulent claims and charges a half million dollars for not delivering any of it. Then they sign off by explaining how Scientology viciously and criminally attacks anyone who tries to leave.

With that reporters ask questions and they answer honestly.

Wouldn't that be totally cool and refreshing?

Just simple people speaking simple truth. No "celebrity" status. Just good human beings who don't tell lies.

If that happened...they would actually BE people worthy of admiration.

Not just a famous person who is part of the cruel hoax known as "the bridge to total freedom".

Apparently, Scientology does not want just celebrities, they want only lying or delusional celebrities.

End of dream scenario. Back to reality.

Tom Cruise was once very popular - now fading and considered wacky.
Oh, and never exactly hung out arounf the orgs in punlic areas - always got the super-duper ass kidding star treatment.
And, yes, he blew afew times and had to be drug back.

John Travlota once super big, now faded and jaded. You'll never see him in the public area od any org. Looks like these days some kind of Mexican standoff between him and the church. He has also blown and been drug back i n years past.

Ki\rstie Allie hardly A list. Same for Lisa Marie or her Mom.

See Geoff Lewis ( really nice guy ) lately.. anywhere or in anything?

Ann Archer.... lately?

Karen Black ? Saved her for last. Dear God. Talk about defining honest to God flat out weird ass. She is. You'd have to spenf a little time around here to realize this one is weird. In fact, I thibk in the church she is quietly regarded as pay no attention to that one. Put it like this, if she KR'd somebody the EO would laugh at it.
And that ain't far off the official view of any of their "celebs" .......good show pieces, but godamned !

So there are some Hollywood people in scn. Big whopee.

Most anybody that got lavished on them what TC gets lavished on him so far above A list would not turn down all the endless stream of expensive frrebies.
( Never mind that DM is in love with TC )

Like one casino offers a whale a new Corvette to stay with them so another offers a Viper... and the winner is the one that offered the Ferrari.

Celebrity...........my ass.

Spot on, HH!

As a Scientologist artist, you are expected by CoS to do PR jobs for them: perform at events (for free, of course), support this or that activity, speak positively in the media about Scn (if needed, drill with the proper OSA person), get your interviews checked by OSA before it goes to print or online, and so on.

You are delusional, because you are very proud of what you do, you are convinced by all the wins you had from the tech that your duty, your hat is to be a good PR for Scientology (which tends to go in the direction of being a good PR for CoS and not what Scientology as an applied philosophy can do).

For some times, you do it honestly, with your best intentions, without recognizing any lies or outpoints. You are happy about the whole thing, you devote a lot of your time and energy to Scientology. Way too much, and this prevents you from making it really big in your career... Reason #1 for artists and other celebs not making it really big with Scn.

Reason #2: Your non-Scientologist contacts (and your public) think you are a dangerous or very stupid lunatic, you even get easily blacklisted (fans turning against you when they find out you are a Scientologist, Anonymous goes to your show, and you have a hard time getting good contracts, shows, publicity etc.)

And when you already notice the lies and other outpoints, you have two options: either you go with the lies, all the empty, shiny PR CoS is doing, because you have to save your face - either you leave the whole thing.

Reason #3: The lying thing is the worst: there comes a point when you cognite that you lie to yourself, to your family, to your Scientologist and non-Scientologist friends, fans, colleagues, business contacts, and also publicly. You begin to hate yourself sooo much for that!!! And who on Earth can make it big in any field, when one hates himself and lying to every single person on this planet? You don't progress on the Bridge, your career sucks, you are broken financially, mentally and maybe physically as well...

Reason #4: a celeb can get so much tricked into the whole thing that they give up their career as artists, sportsmen - and they become dedicated staff members in an Org or the worst: in the Sea Org. So many very talented people have disappeared this way!!!

Reason #5: continuous invalidations. Despite of all what LRH writes about artists, their role in society, how superior, revered and important beings they are and so on, - you are any worth for CoS only if you do all the PR work they want from you, you are already high on the Bridge or are already a huge name of your own who can be pampered as we hear that in the stories about Tom Cruise, or you donate huge amount of monies.
Otherwise, you are simply ignored (individual staff and public Scientologists can be honestly very nice to you and admire what you do - but rarely from their posts).
And on top of being ignored as an artist, all the recruitment interviews, promos and survey tell you that you as an artist are less valuable and your art is not what you should be doing. You get reminders on various tone levels about that it's basically unethical for you to be an artist, when you should rather work on saving the planet.

That's why the world can't see superstar Scientologists.

And when you can't take lying to yourself and to the world any more and you say "F it, ciao Church of Scientology" - suddenly, immediately your creativity starts to raise, your communication channels open up, you start to make money again with your art, tons of stress, enturbulation, invalidation disappears and you feel free and relieved, and that's such a nice step on the Road to Total Freedom :happydance:

So that's celeb life, if you are not Tom Cruise, Travolta or those few around the pot, but just an ordinary Scientologist artist somewhere in the world.

And a uniform answer what I heard from those Scientology staffs who were trying to handle me so that I don't leave and I asked why there were hardly any Scientologists stars:
"Oh, there are so many Scientologist celebs, we just don't know about them!"

:confused2: :duh: :dieslaughing:

I heard this last from the Qual Sec of an Org who were a good friend of mine and a fellow singer, we even did a few things together - but she is doing almost nothing with her singing, for she doesn't have time... :-(

Just one more thing, check out this one:

Mark Janicello, a great singer from the States, big star in Europe. Last week he launched his book about why he left Scientology...

Excellent post! On that last point about the power trending graph for Number of Celebrities....

1. The Hubbard definition of celebrity includes a little phrase that includes the people in their entourage. By that definition, a "celebrity" could be a guy who once fixed a backed up toilet in Tom Cruise's Bluebird motorhome.

2. Scientologists are notoriously delusional on seeing Scientology at work where assuredly there is none (Think the fall of the Berlin Wall). Okay, here is a more everyday example where an OT and a CLEAR are watching tv together and movie star Johnny Depp is being interviewed:

OT
Wow, I didn't know that Johnny Depp was on the Bridge!

CLEAR
Wow! Wait...huh? Was that your OT perception??

OT
No, silly. Didn't you just hear him use
the word 'communication'?

I did a song parody to that effect sometime back.

Pete

Oh Tommy Boy
(to the Tune of Oh Danny Boy)

Oh Tommy boy, the espees are a mockin’ you,
For craziness, you can no longer hide.
Your fans are gone, prospective roles departing,
T’is your career that’s going down like a mudslide.

So loose that Elron muffin of the meadow,
Live down your antics done on Oprah’s show,
And get out from the Dave Miscavige shadow,
Oh Tommy boy, oh Tommy boy, its time to blow.

Should you awake, to find your church is lying,
And be declared, declared to be espee,
You’ll come to find, ‘twas BS you’ve been buying,
And you will say “Ixnay!” to Scientology.

And you’ll explain, how Davey hath betrayed thee,
And how revenge, in court so sweet shall be,
Your fans again, will saith that they love thee,
As you lament your time in Scientology.

As you lament your time in Scientology.

It's a strange thread...we're supposed to "discuss?"

A better question is why are so many truly capable people ignoring Scientology in droves.

Another question is why don't we see more Scientology hot shots period--like CEO's of Fortune 500 companies or political leaders or leading physicians or leading research scientists or leading writers. I think I've seen reps from the latter group come and then go far away quickly. I know there are exceptions but not many.

The cult targets them. So there's that outreach there.

Plus celebs who do Scn get treated way better than others do. Though, sooner or later, the cult will eventually push them around.
