Does anyone remember the tape played in this?
I had to listen to Why can't we be friends on the PTS course a few years ago and I don't remember this.
Of course it was soo cheesy that I did try to block it from consciousness!!!

I gather that there are two taped versions of "Can we Ever be Friends?". I have only heard the one with Jeff Pomerantz. Massively cheesy beyond belief.
I do like the song by War, though.

OMG, It's been so long since I heard that tape. If Hubbard thought THAT would calm down and handle a parent he musta had a screw loose (the jury is in on this point I do believe  ). I listened to that and thought - my god, what a psychotic rant. :grouch:

Fred Hare recorded the original version. I don't know which is worse.:confused2:

The idea, explained to me by a reg after my listening to the original CWEBF tape in horror, was that the parents would hate the tape, not the religion. This gives little credit to the parent-but then another reg told me their "available spirit" or whatever the term was, was tiny, which was why they couldn't "get" SCN. To my shame, whether I believed it or not, I acted as if I did.

All I remember about the tape when I had to listen to it on the PTS/SP course was that it had no transcript and I fell asleep. I was then sent to do call in - which I didn't do. I went home. I was tired. And it wasn't an MU - I was tired from lack of sleep over the weekend. I paid "special course schedule rates" so that I could still party on Friday night and the do whatever I wanted the rest of the weekend. LOL!!! Which usually meant I was done with cleaning my small apartment by 11 AM Sunday and I'd mix a really big cocktail and lay out in my driveway - didn't have a yard. :p

I just had a thought that this sounds like someone who's partly unindoc'd or is having doubts and is rationalizing this really awful tape.

Okay..I've asked this question before on different topics and here I am asking it again!!
What lunatic thought that pathetic rant would actually REASSURE a parent that giving up an education for a full scio. indoctrination is the right thing for their child?
Another example of how completely out of touch Scio. is with the real world!!!!

Did you hear the Pomerantz one or the earlier one? You can tell which ones the Pomerantz one as it's insanely overblown and so corny...

Well, I gotta say I agree with you. I have an anecdote to relate:
I was sitting in some public/break area at the local org one time and I heard some ladies talking to a young woman. It was very similar to scenarios where adults, a generation or so older, are talking to a young person about her plans. It was sorta nice but then got heavily indoctrinated. They were asking her if, now that she was out of high school, did she want to go on to college. And then she was like "Gosh, I thought about it, but decided not to since, you know, they've got those required psych courses." and everyone was like "yeah, I know what you mean." I was sitting there thinking "Give me a break. You can't sit through Psych 101- an incredibly mild course? You can't agree to disagree and just get your course requirement in and go on your way?"

To answer your question as to what lunatic thought such a thing: The author of the tape's script. Who might that be? Ah, I'll give you one guess.
LRH??? you say! Bingo - you win the prize!

You know this really brings up one of my many upsets with the "church". It never seemed resonable to me that people are brought in to solve certain areas of their life with "tech".
But instead of that, these people are now expected to give up the things they wanted to improve. Jobs, Marriages (if spouse is not interested in the cult), Homes, Educations, family times.
I was so embarrassed one time on course. A man who was quite new was taking a Div. 6 course and doing quite well. He was an "upstat". One night I heard some loony SO recruiter yelling at this dignified gentleman for not showing up for ANOTHER gang bang recruit cycle. :grouch: :grouch: He had already sat through many and was not interested.
In what universe did this jerk think this new man was going to quit his job to slave away at the church with creeps like her?
I left shortly after but I wonder what happened with him.
It seemed like they drove away a lot of the successful people!

I knew the guy well enough to know that was what he had been told and he believed it. Whether the higher ups were of the same mind, or just wanted a tool to complete the separation of child from parent, I don't know.

Sandygirl,
I couldn't agree more. When they reg people, it's all about how it would improve life for the person. But once one's in CofS, particularly as staff (note: I mean staff ANYWHERE in CofS, not just SO) but also as public to an extent- it's all about the cult. And one is expected to give up everything, ultimately.

I'm pretty sure it was someone else. As I said before - I only remember falling asleep to it. That's all I remember about the whole entire tape. Must have made a huge impression on me. LOL!!!!:p

Exactly. I never agreed to give up everything, nor did I. I couldn't figure how being on only one dynamic - the 3rd with the group of Scn - was survival. I used to tell people not to call me at work - I wasn't on my Scn dynamic, I was on my "make money" (work 3rd dynamic) at the time. That really pissed a few people off. And if they knew I worked for another Scn, they would say "they'll understand you talking to me for a while". BS - I wasn't getting paid to talk to a reg while I was working my job. Duh!!!!! :confused2:

I don't believe there are dynamics. There are identities one uses for various requirements of life. To assign an identity so important a role as a place within a permanent structure is a dangerous enterprise. It can make one believe in structure instead of oneself.

I haven't examined my views on dynamics since I've been out. That's just how I felt while I was in, since I was using the tech.
I just call my various parts in life my different hats: me hat, when I'm just being myself and doing what I want, wife hat when I'm taking care of the house, dinner, etc. for my husband, mommy hat when I'm gabbing on the phone with my daughter, etc.
Thanks for pointing this out to me Nexus100 - I truly hadn't looked at the dynamics in about 2 years.

You are welcome! But the source is not me, it is Idenics, and my interpretation of it. Best of fortune to you and yours!
