In 1961 I was working for the ATO in Sydney, I was 17. By 63 I had made friends with an extremely odd individual (a fellow employee) named Geoff A. I recall one day when we were having tea (cup of) in a restaurant in Phillip St. They brought the tea in a metal pot which was very hot as Geoff found when he picked it up and dropped it on the table and then the floor. Obviously there was a mess all over the place so we moved to another table so they could clean up. We received another pot at the clean table and one of the staff then remarked rather loudly ' What are they going to do make a mess at every table?' On hearing this Geoff promptly upturned the new pot on the new table and got up and walked out.
Another time we were travelling in a train when some teenagers made some disparaging remarks about Geoff. He went over and told them to shut up or he would kill them (he was scary). We left the train at our station and while we were on the platfform one of the kids stared abusing Geoff from the safety of the train. He promptly went over and punched the offender through the closed train window breaking his hand in the process (he was very scary).
He believed that he could stop the rain by focussing his mind. If it didn't work he would say it was because he could not focus properly for some reason. He had the same idea about picking winners at the track.

You certainly have a flair for the dramatic. Welcome, and please post forward!

One day early in 64 Geoff told me that he had been to an introductory session on a thing called 'Scientology'. He was very enthusiastic about it and felt it validated some of his views on how the word worked. He kept at me to go down - I think it was in Elizabeth St towards Surrey Hills to attend one of these sessions. Eventually I went with him. Now I am trying to remember the name of the man who ran the class and I come up with the name Ross Turnbull but I'm not sure. If anybody knows the name and what happened to him I would be in your debt. Anyway I immediately liked this person and felt at ease with him. He told the attendees about some of the basic ideas of Scientology. I particularly related to the idea of ARC and the fact that the org offered courses in how to put this stuff into practice. I immediately signed up for the first class.
I got to tell you that I loved it. All this stuff about Trs, Axioms, Serfacs, Problems, loved it.
Just at this time a lot of bad publicity came about, I guess it was the Anderson thing. My mother was very concerned that I was involved with this odd 'cult'. I mentioned this to Ross? and he told me to invite them to come and talk to him.
