Here you all go! Contribute to a great purpose and get some Basics training on top of it!! Sail the high seas of the Caribbean. What a great adventure!! I imagine that no construction company will go near these guys so they have to resort to the unsuspecting public Scios..
"Dear Scientologist,
The Freewinds is currently mid an exciting historical and nautical restoration project in preparation for upcoming releases and we are giving Scientologists an opportunity to be a part of this!
For this project, we are looking for volunteers who have skills in construction, carpentry, welding, tiling and electrical. However any gung-ho Scientologist who is on-purpose, willing and able to do MEST work will do! All those participating need to be at least 18 years of age.
By being a part of this project, you will also be awarded room and board plus 2½ hours of study daily on the Basic Books and Lecture courses in the Freewinds public course-room! Also, you will be acknowledged and recognized for your contributions to the Freewinds and towards our goal of an OT civilization.
Please fill out the following questionnaire:
I am interested in working as a volunteer on-board the Freewinds and would like to get more information. Yes ___ No ___
I am ___ years old.
I would like to work on MEST work related projects. Yes ___ No ___
I would like to work on the clerical/admin projects. Yes ___ No ___
Also, I have the following skills and experience.
These are some people I would think would be interested (name, address, e-mail and phone numbers).
If you have any questions please get in comm with Jes Varrall at freewinds@freewinds.org or call me at 727 445 4309. Please send in your arrival date and any questions you may have on what is needed for you to arrive. We look forward to seeing you on board!

Man, they are desperate. And I bet no one gets their 2 1/2 hours of study per day. They'll be worked like RPFers and will be too tired and not fed well enough to study. And when they want to leave their "volunteer" duties they won't be given back their passports.
Lets see how many new people join ESMB after they "volunteer" to work on the Freewinds. LOL!!!!

Why would they put this question in? Why would someone bother to do take a form and find a pen if they were just going to tick No
Who writes these things? Are they thick or just plain stupid?

Ha Ha! It's probably one of these 14 yr old kids that's the daughter of some OT talked into being in the SO and hounded endlessly and the parents harassed as being CI until they give up and let her sign.

Letter Reg policy on questionnaires in OEC Vol 2. I was a Letter Reg for a few years. Used to send lots out. The idea is to get responses of any kind, not just the "I'm arriving tomorrow!" type. It's all grist to the mill. Any comm is better than no comm, and all that.

Wow, how could any self respecting Scientologist not want to work 12 hours a day for free.
And you even get to pay for your own air fare to the port city!
I bet you even get to replace all your asbestos laden clothes when your done!
Oh, and wow, you even get to see the new drug port that is on the docking schedule.
You don't get off the ship, but you get to see the port!
Sign me up! I could use a vacation from my 50K job working 9 hours a day!

I didn't see any pay mentioned. What would be the pay? Sea Org rates? At least Sea Org members supposed to get more course time...

because there is NO pay. They want volenteers. Completely free labour. Talk about being out-exchange...

Ad may as well say
"Since no one is willing to join the SO any more we're asking you to come do all our work for us. Pleese? You'll be guaranteed a place in heaven - oh wait, we don't have heaven - you'll get moral credit... yeah, that's right."
I have a yukky feeling they'll get some volunteers. People who would like a chacne to go aboard the Freewinds, and who do not have anything to lose but time - they wont be aware of the health danger. Perhaps there is some way we can make them aware?

And I forgot to mention the added benefit from my volunteer action...
I get to be recruited 24/7 into the Sea Org!!
Or Regged for services (notice the reverse flow of the volunteer is only lectures and basics) until my checks are gone and my plastic has lost it's magnetic stripe.

As a boy, I loved the sea. Can't wait to sign up. I want to reread all the basics and help Davey clear the planet. I can't think of a nobler thing to do with my life at this moment. Maybe I'll get to see Tom Cruise and get his autograph.:happydance:

They have got to be kidding! :duh:
Sweat your guts out on an asbestos-ridden, rusty hulk for NO PAY?
How stupid do they think their public …..
Sorry, ignore the last question.
Just shows how desperate they've got now, can't get any 'wog' companies to do the work, so now resort to pressuring their public, but can't even afford to pay them.
Hmmm, I wonder what would happen if someone volunteered, found out that there was asbestos and threatened to sue?
Is there a postal address where I can send a reply? Sounds like someone needs to hear some facts!

They did the same thing when they did the renos on the complex in LA. One guy I knew who did it had a license of some sort they needed and held them over the barrel and got OT 5 out of it. CoS won't pay contractors when thy can get slaves. The other 2 I knew were fairly tight-lipped, but gave me the impression it was a pretty horrible experience. Worked like dogs and awful living conditons.

Hey - there is another outpoint ...
Wasn't the Freewinds was in dry dock last year at this time ?
When I was at Flag in Oct 07, I was briefed about how the Freewinds was going into dry dock in March 08 - for a super duper full renovation for the soon to be released OTIX and X as well as a full upgrade the rest of the ship. I remember seeing an event with the computer graphics of the finished product. It included new "public areas" and new rooms etc.
I was supposed to go and do OTVIII then so I could take baby Jack with me, as OTVIII would be delivered on land
( kids aren't allowed on the ship ).
So what am I missing here - did the last renos not get fully done ?
Or else how come we need more renos so soon ?

If we think of the Co$ and its Sea Org as a pirate ship we'll have the exchange factor worked out: what's mine is mine, and what's yours is mine. :gimmesome:

Those nuts and bolts are wearing down my teeth!
Remember those huge projects with dozens of people to help and only one or 2 sets of tools provided?

I would think there must have been a plan B when asbestos was found. They probably spent tons of money just getting it back in the water. There has been a pretty good blackout of information about that. Most experts I read said it was doubtful all asbestos could be removed. I wonder what they ended up doing.

I was actually told, in writing, by an SO member on the ship that the "asbestos problem" was "handled" in the recent renovations. (2008). From my understanding, there is a way of sealing up asbestos..this may be false but that is my understanding. There is no way the asbestos was removed given all the information and time factors that you can find if you google "blue asbestos". You'll find articles about the Freewinds there too.
Mrs.Pattycake brings up the same question as I myself have. In 2008 I was at an event that showed the renovations that were done to the Freewinds "in preparation for the release of OTlX and X". I saw a recent photo of the HGC and it does indeed look totally different than it did before...I don't, however, believe that all the renovations got done in all the areas..
