You would think that someone on the promo issue authority line would have English as their native language. The phrasing is wrong, quite apart from the then/than error.

Most are probably Freewinds 'victims' themselves......

Baum was an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1975 Snow White shenanigans. John Coale (married and divorced a FCDC public reg long ago, then married Greta Van Sustern of CNN fame) was once part of this firm -- CBS's 60 Minutes called him "the number one ambulance chaser in the world" because of his representation of the Bhopal India gas leak catastrophe. Bob Foss and Skip Murgatroyd, two FCDC alumni, also work there, as does Chuck Judge, though the latter is not an an attorney, but one of those meet-and-greeters to the aggrieved.

i remove asbestos for a living, and blue asbestos, aka crocidolite asbestos, is potentially the most dangerous kind, as it has a razor-like consistency that can easily damage more lung tissue, and very difficult to remove, as it resists water, the main control factor in removal. as far as legal ramifications go, people would first have to come forward with a diagnosis of either mesothelioma, asbestosis, or lung cancer. what generally happens is the defendant will agree on a pre-determined amount out of court, and each palintiff will receive a share of it as they come forward. so the amount goes down for each victim.

Welcome maggotsandriots. This is interesting. What about families of already deceased individuals? There are quite a few "OTs" already dead from lung cancer, but as this was unknown at the time, their MD's may not have thought to look for asbestos as a possible inducer. Can their families still come forward?

generally, yes. as long as it was lung cancer or mesothelioma, there's no way to disprove it. and since it seems that they've known about this for a long time, they could be on the hook for quite a bit, and possibly criminal charges, like the Libby, Montana company that knew they had tremolite asbestos contaminating a mine there, and never told anyone. people in that town are still finding out that they have asbestosis.

Chuck Judge works there? He was on the fence back in 86 when I knew him in LA. Like to talk to him now.

Enturb had some interesting stuff. The ship has been moved but according to someone there who claims knowledge of the process the ship would not have the asbestos removed at dry dock but would have a lot of other material stripped out and then the ship would be moved and the asbestos would be removed in a sealed facility like a hangar. Makes sense that they just can't truck it out as reported. Everybody at the dry dock would be exposed. Also from these pix you can see the ship appears to be displacing less water which would mean it had material removed and you can see no turbulence at the fan tail which mean the mains engines are not running. So it's either being towed or moving by bow thrusters and so is only partially done with the process. In any case no news is good news even if they do restore it. It will cost God knows how much to do this and who will want to go on this ship now?

and who will want to go on this ship now?

They've continued denying it publicly so far, and haven't mentioned it any internal promo pieces - I don't see anything in the CofS' past that makes it seem likely that they will tell their devoted followers that the Freewinds is and has been a health risk.

It looks considerably the worse for wear. I personally would like to see Scientology suffer far more for this. If you have been aboard it, please sue. At least talk to an asbestos-specialised lawyer. It's quite possible that one will represent you for free - they frequently do this for the fame that comes if they win.
