In no small way that's because Scientology has taken so much from earlier sources.
The basic function of "auditing" - in its most common sense and benign manifestation - does have something to offer.
That said, as is no secret, I regard Scientology - over-all - as a trap.
A little bit of Scientology can - sometimes - be beneficial; a lot of Scientology is usually a big mistake.
Remote viewing has mixed results, and has proven not reliable for serious information gathering. Hubbard certainly didn't use it when he ran his private Intelligence (spy and covert attack) Network.
A long time ago, I had a conversation with Ingo Swann. When we discussed the subject of (apparent) "out of body experience" during extreme lucid dreaming (being wide awake while 'dreaming'), and I asked him if he had any difficulties during such experiences, he's the only one to this day to answer, "Yes, telephone wires."
For what it's worth, at the time, I was having the same problem. It wasn't until this peculiar difficulty during 'lucid dreaming' that I (in my body) went outside and looked up, and was startled to see the many telephone lines that stretched above me in all directions.
Extreme lucid dreaming and other altered or alternate states of consciousness do occur, and can be amazingly vivid.
When one returns to "normal" consciousness, these other states (or realms?) are often easily forgotten.
That, I suppose, is the nature of "reality," and of consciousness.
