    Default Scientology Training and Acting

Do you think, or have you heard that Scientology training negatively affects acting ability?

If actors do a lot of Scientology training with the no blinking and continual suppression of most human emotions, it seems it would affect their ability to convey emotional range...Has anyone noticed this?

Maybe that's why that list of Oscar Winning Scientologist actors is getting so hard to keep track of.

Yes lurkers you are not alone, everyone thinks Scientology is creepy, it's not just you

I'm just wondering if it was ever whispered about when people were in...I read (TV Guide article, I think) that a lot of actors joined the CoS in the 80's to network rather than really study--did they realize, do you think, that the training made you seem wooden and creepily intense?

But what about all those Tone Scale drills that people do? Did you never drill them? Drilling TR-1 in all the tones of the Expanded Tone Scale from 0.0 up to 40.0? That was the standard handling for someone on the Pro TRs course who seemed frozen into any particular tone. Fifty-foot tone scale drills too for the really tough ones.

no. didn't know anything about those. I guess that would help if you were an actor?

I only bring this up b/c I saw a Scio actor on TV the other day and thought "wow...very TC video-ish..." and no, it didn't seem to be just the role.

Default Scio and acting don't mix

darling...that was one of the things that started chipping away at my cognitive dissonance. I actually did well at acting, but I had to throw ALL Scientology out to do it. And looking at Tom Cruise's fall from good acting in the old high school football movie (blanking on the name), and even still with it during Rainman, to the fricking BS he was shoveling in the Japanese thing? Oh, and Ann Archer...and what became of Karen Black. Scientology ruins acting abilitly. I weep for Jason Lee....I used to love him, hopefully, he'll escape all that. Acting is about stripping away and becoming honest and naked....(IMHO) and Scio leaves you with the Scio personality. Or some folks do the "cloaking" method...but, again, Scios cloak themselves with the Scio thing instead of their character in most cases. Travolta has mostly stayed clean, but watch Phenomenon if you wanto to gag. My friend and I were actually laughing...I whispered...omg, it's a tech film, all we need now is an FBI raid, and you can GUESS what the next scene was! I almost died!

Just liars. They only want stars for promotion. I was armstronged into giving up acting for "the greatest good". If you aren't famous, or on the cusp, they think it's a worthless pursuit.

    Default One more thought...

I'm thinking acting just might have saved my life....seriously. Hanging on to the thought of going back into theater, I just refused to let my emotions be totally shut off, and there are actually many times I thought that during my last staff run. Kind of cool. Every time I thought about becoming a zombie, I seriously thought....uh, well, I'd LIKE to get back on stage at some point, so I CAN'T...and the drama queen thing gave me license to perform the dastardly act that led them to ousting me.....hehehehehe, but I'm not there in my personal story, yet.

I would think so. They certainly helped with my own projection of those emotional tones when I want to show a particular tone different to how I really feel at that instant. They also help to make real Hubbard's statement that a being creates his own feelings, even if others have said that too.

Really? I almost got killed when I tried it....always went better when I just FELT it and responded, instead of delving into tones and the appropriate tone level. Maybe I'm weird. I did always kick ass on tthe tone scale drills, though. Supes used to use me as a demo.
