    Default First Hand Accounts from Applied Scholastics Staff?

    Hi all,
    I'm working on putting together an info pack for harpoon fodder on the Applied Scholastics front here in the USA where the cult is sneaking into our public school systems as state approved SES providers under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation. (sneak peak at DRAFT info pack still being compiled is available here. Major highlights also summarized as a wiki page)

    In the course of gathering infos, I happened upon this old first hand account -

    ^^Thats from 1995, and i was thinking surely there's more first hand accounts to be found nowadays. But alas, my searches come up empty. So I thought I'd toss out a public request for more infos... any former Applied Scholastics staff got stories to share or know of any links to other similar accounts to point me towards? TIA!

    That article is amazing! In my 15 years as a Criminon volunteer, I have been to Applied Scholastics a few times in my ronbot career, but I never knew anything like that about it. But why would it be any different than any other Scn sub group? I never knew about the RPF or ex-SO kids either when I was in the SO.

    I wish whoever wrote that article would speak up on ESMB, because I think he has a story for Sen Xen.

    Good luck with this quest, AnonLover. I sure hope this thread pulls some more stories of AS out of the woodwork!

    Oh - you might get a better response on the ex-Scn kids website. Kids were the ones involved with AS.

    ya i thought of that for first hand student accounts, but my initial morbid curiosity is on staff / volunteers who did time served under ASI... that sort of stuff would likely be more relevant for effectively harpooning state educators, parents & school districts on why they shouldnt opt in for AS tutoring services when given the choice.

    but once i see what fer fish i catch here on ESMB, i will likely venture on over to exkids and see what i can dig up on the student experiences vein as well.

    I would think any state educator, parent or school district would be horrified by student accounts revealing what the staff & volunteers were doing!

    yes i cant deny that. but the target I'm trying to hit is state approved SES Providers, which is a variation of applied scholastics used as "Supplemental Education Services" for afterschool tutoring programs funded by federal grant ("No Child Left Behind") for struggling public school districts.

    Altho its all the same "study tech" - its not the usual Applied Scholastics in the form of private schools. which is definitely a bigger / uglier problem... but the nature of how private schools are regulated is a much harder target to go after cuz there's not alot requirements & regulations for the cult to blatantly fail on.

    Where as the SES provider tutoring programs is typically a shallow song-n-dance to get approved, and several layers of regulations, reviews & reporting requirements that have to be met to stay on the approved list. And for 2009-10 school year, both Georgia & Florida dropped ASI from their approved SES Provider list. IOW - a few years of close scrutiny & they were kicked to curb, i liek that very much and want to see more!

    Thus I'm not trying to ignore the private school horrors. but thinking instead that targeting the SES approvals is juicy "low hanging fruit" that deserves more attention & more informational tools to go after it properly. And perhaps if we can successfully get ASI's SES approval dropped in a few more of the 13 states where they currently have a foot in the door, than it might be easier to build on that momentum in those same areas, where state board of education employees have become aware of what Applied Scholastics really is, in order to also get the private schools in the same states investigated. Sort of like lining up dominos to knock 'em all down.

    thus as a phase 1 tactic of targeting the approved SES Provider applications - i was drooling over the thought of perhaps digging up a recently out ex who worked under ASI that might have valuable insights to share on how the cult gets itself approved, and/or what they are doing to fudge the evidence-based reporting requirements that would help us speed up the process of getting the infiltration in our public schools exposed faster so that we can get other SES state approvals booted to the curb.

    and soon as we get some of those tutoring program approvals reversed so that US tax dollars arent wasted on a study tech scam... exposing the bigger / uglier problems of the private schools will be HIGH on my list for the next ideal phase 2 target to shine a light on.

    Default Another Look at Applied Scholastics from an Ex-Insider

    Hello all:

    As an ex-insider of Applied Scholastics (I was fired just yesterday), I am here to let everyone know the upfront, honest truth about what goes on. I read the "A testimony from the inside" link at the bottom, and that was for the most part spot on as to what happens at these places. Like her ED, the ED at my location was also very moody and anti-social...he always walked around like he had something stuck up somewhere, if you catch my drift...The deputy ED was no better. I myself am not a Scientologist, but about 90% of the people who work at ASI are, and it seemed to me that if you did not embrace the Scientology way of life, thinking, or behaving, you were pretty much on borrowed time. I can't speak for other locations, but at my location, independent, educated thinking was frowned upon and, in essence, possible grounds for termination, as you would probably be looked at as a troublemaker or peace disturber. I was brought in to work in public relations (my MBA and BA are both in marketing). In my interview, I specifically relayed that I did NOT want to be in sales (as I had already worked in sales for a few years and knew that was not my forte) and wanted to be strictly in marketing and pr. I was told that would be fine, and that I would be selling SOME of the time...that was completely wrong. For the last month I was there (I was only there six weeks) I was on the phones from the time I got in until I went home trying to get people to come to seminars, workshops and whatever else they had going on. Usually, I was the only one in the building calling for that amount of time, as the ED, Deputy ED, and every other "senior exec" was so busy harrassing people that they didn't really do much calling. Because I was forced to sit on the phone all day, I began to get very upset and actually began to hate having to go to work...and it showed. My death sentence was set when, during a meeting with my senior and the VP of "quality control", I said that the wool had been pulled over my eyes, as this was not the job I signed up for and exactly the job I said I didn't want, to which the quality control woman said literally, "that is bullsh*t!" Thinking that it might be better for me to move from the pr division to the marketing division, i put in a transfer request, which ultimately was shot down.

    There were days that I literally cried at my desk because the environment was so oppressive. What is really disturbing is that these people who hold very high positions within the organization do not have formal education, but are only well versed in scientology and applied scholastics terms. Needless to say, when they let me go, I was not in the least bit hurt, as I'm actually going to get a pay RAISE by collecting unemployment. My only rant was they could have called me at home before I left so that I didn't waste an outfit...but since leaving, a huge weight I feel has been lifted off my shoulders...

    Everything at applied scholastics is mostly based on having a misunderstood word...if you yawn, you have an MU...if you don't want the lunch they are serving, you have an MU...if you hate the job that you were given that you said you didn't want, you have an MU. It seems like rational, logical thinking has gone out the window.

    But why should applied scholastics be taken out of the schools? The sr. vp of expansion, who has a g.e.d. but was able to teach in cali at an applied scholastics school because of her "extensive applied scholastics knowledge", recently sent her son to reform school because he's not doing well in his studies. My question is, if you know all the applied scholastics technology enough to teach it to other people's kids, why can't you teach your own son? On top of that, the school that was at the same location where I worked doesn't even have a curriculum...the kids spend most of their time either outside playing or eating snacks in the cafeteria. Another woman whose son is in the school had to PAY another independent tutor to bring her son back up to speed because he was falling so far behind (he is about 8 but read at a 1st grade level). That was more than enough for me...

    So...that's my "insider look" at the entity called applied scholastics...
