UPDATE: This is a religious discrimination case resulting in wrongful termination. This lawsuit is still ongoing per Pinellas court docket records. The case is a most important one because it addresses the subject of disconnection, so inherent in the lives of scientologists and their business practices, because another is no longer a member of the church. This case was allowed to proceed after complaints had been filed with US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and FL state Human Rights. To get to the point of suing in court, one must have a valid claim. This case opens the door to others being able to sue for similar issues.

I posted the complaint over at scridb because the article does not link to the pdf of it.

IN reviewing the current docket, I see that on Jan 5, 2011, defendent David Singer Enterprises filed what is called an 'affirmative defense', meaning "A defendant offers an affirmative defense when responding to a plaintiff's claim in common law jurisdictions, or, more familiarly, in criminal law. Essentially, the defendant affirms that the condition is occurring or has occurred but offers a defense that bars, or prevents, the plaintiff's claim. An affirmative defense is known, alternatively, as a justification, or an excuse, defense.[1] Consequently, affirmative defenses limit or excuse a defendant's criminal culpability or civil liability.

A clear illustration of an affirmative defense is self defense.[2] In its simplest form, a criminal defendant may be exonerated if he can demonstrate that he had an honest and reasonable belief that another's use of force was unlawful and that the defendant's conduct was necessary to protect himself." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affirmative_defense

Essentially this means he admits ( in whole or part) & has excuses for discriminating and is using them to justify his actions. I am hoping that copies of these docs make it to the internet so that we can see what kind of justification Singer has for disconnecting and firing Haugen.

Sweet. I predict they settle out of court.

I like this one because it is current. Let's see what happens.
Usually these kind of cases are settled. But with that usually precludes a plaintiff talking about the case or the settlement.

If enough people in this position, and I am sure there are many, start these suits though it would lead to the church yanking the reins on scientologist run companies and not letting them do such things which create the dreaded flap for the church. Whatever it takes to get the church to be ethical and them and theirs abide by the laws of the land will be an improvement.

Singer Ent. hooks doctors and dentists into LRH tech and then into the CoS. It would be best if they got the pants sued off of them and wound up totally broke and out of business. They are only helping to keep the CoS alive.

I get really tired of hearing about how the lower bridge has value. The lower bridge has the sole purpose of getting the PC to reach for more bridge. The fact that many people improved their circumstances as a result of a good intentioned auditor being interested and caring about his PC is not worth the long term and intended result of Scientology technology. Default David Singer Not all bad

Two things: I was waiting for a wrongful termination suit and yes he should have to pay because if the allegations are true (and they probably are) he should pay the legal penalty.

However, David Singer is the most successful consultant for chiropractors EVER. Even other non Scientology based consultants are based on his methods.

Many of the most successful chiropractors have been Singer clients and most do not become Scientologists. Has he had clients who failed sure, but he would not be in business this long and so popular if he didn't help a lot of people.

Not only does he consult chiropractors but he donates a lot of money to help chiropractors and now acupuncturists both legally and politically. And if it wasn't for chiropractors being popular the AMA would have much more control on all things having to do with natural medicine

If it wasn't for David Singer chiropractic wouldn't be where it is and if any of you have ever been helped by a chiropractor, an acupuncturist or even enjoy being able to take vitamins with the prescription from a doctor you have David Singer to thank. And therefore dare I say it even Hubbard.

No he should not discriminate for religious reasons (and should pay the penalty for that) but really does anyone who has any connection to Hubbard need to go straight to hell? Can a Scientologist do nothing right?

Most of the posts I have seen on here are extremely simplistic --everything ever connected to Hubbard is bad--- so stupid.... talk about your "cult like thinking"

Go ahead you idiots tell me how wrong I am.

    Just being reasonable

Anyone else find it strange this guy wanted to move to Texas? Wonder how many newly minted Martybots feel the need to move close to their guru for services? Wonder to what degree Marty encourages this? Texas gulf becomes the new Clearwater for the Mindies?

Seriously Bunny Skull? Your attempts to discredit the Haugen's and their lawsuit by positioning them with Marty is a big fail my dear. They did not move to Texas.

This may be hard for you to wrap your head around, but there are many out of the cult who are doing things to expose the crimes and abuses of the cult, that Marty has nothing to do with. I know you and your OSA friends have to convince yourself that Marty is a kingpin that everyone follows, but it just isn't true. Many have fought the cult's abuses before Marty, many are now, and many will after. Not everyone of your perceived enemies are tied to Marty, so attempting to discredit a legit lawsuit in this way is just absurd.
