My take on this: Though it's entirely possible Charlie will kill himself with dope and booze, which would be a sad end to his problems, he won't end up in a cult.
He's just just to damn hardheaded to give over his life to a leader other then Charlie S. That's why AA never worked on him and neither will scientology or giving his life to Jesus.
The guy just needs to keep the illusion of control. And if he loses that illusion, he'd rather lose it to the substance than to another being, be it human or Divine.
He's just not wired that way.Either he works it out himself, perhaps helped by medication, or he kills himself, while showing the world "he is in control".
But he'll never admit he needs help from God, LRH or even other human beings like himself.
I sincerely do hope he finds his way out before he kills himself. I genuinely like the guy, even if, some times, I don't know why. Maybe it's just because he's so damn hardheaded.
(and before I get all the ex-addicts and family-members who dote on Jesus and AA on me; I know, from own experience, what out-of-control addiction is.
I also know what it's like to have a loved one addicted. And I never saw anybody getting psychologically healthier by exchanging a substance-addiction into a cult-addiction. I respect Charlie for saying it out loud.![]()

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.C.S.Lewis I'm furious! Some Scilons beat up my friend Zorro, the harmless clown also known as Nono le Patate", for expressing his right to non-violent free speech!

Let's put his one-of-a-kind career into historical perspective. He came up at the same time as Tom Cruise, when they were the new beady-eyed beefcake bros in town. They both played Vietnam vets in Oliver Stone movies. They both seemed like likable lightweights: not too bright, but desperate to be taken seriously. One of them grew up to be batshit-loco Cocoa Puffs. The other turned into Charlie Sheen.
