How messed up is this child going to be? So sad. Not to mention the effect on her teeth. Good article and video

Yeah, 'she can do what she wants' but we know what that means.

She can never disparage the cult or leave it without dire consequences. So much for the idea of self-determinism in scientology.

Should Suri Cruise, nearly 5, still use a pacifier?
    By Ann Oldenburg, USA TODAY

Call it Binky Buzz. A photo of Suri Cruise, who will be 5 next month, sucking on a pacifier while walking down the street in Vancouver, Canada, has sparked a conversation this week.

Is she too old to be using a binky?

Parents and experts are weighing in on the topic. According to BabyCenter.com, "some pediatricians and speech experts say 12 months is a good time to wean your child from the pacificer." The Mayo Clinic says that "most kids stop using the pacifier on their own between the ages of 2 and 4."

Suri, whose dad Tom Cruise is filming Mission: Impossible 4 now, is no stranger to controversy. At age 4 she was under fire for wearing heels and lipstick. Just before she turned 4, she was criticized when she was spotted still drinking from a bottle.

Mom Katie Holmes has spoken in the past about her daughter's determination to do what she wants. "She picks out all of her own clothes and has since she was 1 1/2," Holmes told New York magazine last year.

A source tells PopEater's Rob Shuter that the family's religion is behind the behavior. "Scientology encourages you to make your own decisions and learn lessons as you live your life. She'll know herself when it's time to throw the pacifier away, plain and simple."

My guess, with her current involvement, is that she'll need the pacifier for the rest of her life.

    Someone should pray for her.

Neither my sister nor myself had "pacifiers", known in this country as "dummies". I was "cured" of thumbsucking inside 6 weeks. My sister, on the hand, chewed on her thumb so badly that she had worked her way down to the bone.

I remember at age 7 and 8 that there were many kids at school who still sucked their thumbs. I recall that the biggest concern was trying to get kids to stop as the adult teeth started coming through.

The best method I've ever read to stop the use of a pacifier is to tie it to the fridge handle. Child can approach fridge and "suck", but when something else attracts attention the pacifier is left behind. Eventually it falls into dis-use.

As for Suri, yes, I would suggest that she is a little old, but that is entirely an opinion. Suri and her parents do not have to agree with me.

Soon the pacifier will change into cigarettes. Both is usefull in stress situations.
