Michio Kaku is a real physicist, all right, and even a moderately sized big shot. Not a Feynman, not even a Hawking, but much more well known and accomplished than, for example, me. He teaches at CUNY.
But he would seem to have become a little too much the popularizer. He never bothers to mention the crucial fact that his grandiose categories of civilization are simply terms he has made up. We've never seen the slightest evidence for any civilizations other than our own, so we have no freaking idea what relevant categories apply to ones much more advanced than us. And once you realize that he's talking entirely through his hat, you see that he has nothing particularly original to say about the current state of the world. So we're on the cusp of becoming a 'type I civilization', are we? That would seem to be just his hifalutin way of talking about globalization — which lots of other people have been talking about for two decades now.
If you want to learn about economics, you're probably better off listening to an actual economist. Tune in to Kaku when you want to learn about string theory instead.
Fair enough.
For future reference, however, (or for general recall), we do hope the powers and movers and shakers that be, of the 'let us export humanity to the edges of the known universe' reflect on a few fundamental facts about the product they wish to ('benevolently bestow' we trust) upon the rest of conscious being in the known cosmos. Italics ours below
#1. Humans (known taxonomically as Homo sapiens,[3][4] Latin for "wise man" or "knowing man")[5]....source: wikipedia
Please do note the near human-wide accepted (if not thoroughly adored) definition of humanity as being: 'wise man or knowing man', standing next to any objective analysis/interpretation of the history of humanity. Which analysis will confirm what was long ago once said along the lines of:
'If all of humanity were one single individual, and the whole of human history were that one single individuals life, that one single individual would (today) be diagnosed as being a: certified pathological sociopathic schizophrenic maniac, with uncontrollable tendencies toward severe manic depression interrupted only by delusional (though profound) experiences of egomania, whilst being a raping and killing machine that would make the devils of the darkest cosmic novels ever written (and performed) blush.
But hey, go for it.
Can't have Cops without Robbers. Love without Fear. Light absent Darkness.
Game on.

by he way: "As discussed in book Who Was Adam?, researchers have performed a number of studies that indicate a 98 to 99 percent genetic similarity between humans and chimps..." source: reasons.org
A typical human type response to the above quote/fact would be: Well, uh, that doesn't really mean too much...cause, uh...um...(fill in the blank, especially using the word 'science')...
A typical higher consciousness of being response would be: Complete Silence (with great compassion) along with the nagging thought, damn, please don't bring the chimps 'here' (until the evolve more).
To which the higher higher consciousness response would be: No problem. We won't. And they can't.
