    Default A question for Terril.

Terril, you have variously stated that: "Marty is doing a marvelous job of getting many/very many people out of the Church." In fact, you trot this out quite frequently.

Does this have any basis in reality, or is it just wishful thinking and PR on your part?

Can you put forward any concrete information that shows he has directly caused "many/very many" to leave the Church?

    I doubt that you can.

You can't ask a Scientologist for proof. That's invalidation. Hubbard never had to prove anything and he was never wrong (in the eyes of true believers).

I am not Terril, and the following is not a full answer to your question, but it may be relevant.

It isn't really an answer, but it's interesting in itself. I know that some ex Cof$ members are finding their way to Marty. My question is very specific: How many people has Marty directly caused to leave the Cof$.

That list includes Paul Haggis, who as far as I know would not consider himself an Independent Scientologist (though I might be wrong on that) and a large number of people who left before Marty did.

I've heard that Marty has mentioned some specific people on his blog as having rec'd help in getting out of the cult.

In addition to that, there's his role in the Truth Rundown. I have friends whom I see frequently who attribute that to their decision to leave.

Now, let's stop picking on Terril, goddamn it. I don't have a problem with anyone asking him stuff like this, but I'm a bit dismayed at the personalized comments ABOUT Terril.
I am truly into myself, yes. And I'm just as interested in other people. When I'm not thinking of one, I'm thinking of the other.

Oh yes, you can ask a Scientologist any question.

Do not expect a valid reply.

I don't think that our Terril will crumple under the weight of a simple question, but it's sweet of you to be so protective of him.

Smilla, a couple of points; When it comes to Scientology *nothing* is as represented. Also if you apply it too much to yourself you will lose your ability to discern fact from PR. Asking a Scientologist to pierce the veil of Scientology PR is like asking a Jone's towner what happens after they drink the koolaide.

FWIW I think Marty has been a strong rallying point for people leaving and has been pivotal in helping the snowball gather momentum. He's a natural leader, love him or hate him it's hard not to admit that. He drives a lot of the forward thrust that puts pressure on DM.

    That's got to be good.

I'm sure that's all true - I'm just asking Terril to show me something to back up his statements. I don't think it will happen, because I don't think he has anything to show, but it's worth the asking.
