Extreme recall, with strong emotions, of long ago vents that themselves were strong experiences, is something one sees with PTSS/Vietnam syndrome/shell shock (take your pick). As you decompress and enter normal society, it may be that the real effect of things you experienced years ago are coming to the surface. Maybe. Or I may be way off.

Were I in your shoes, I would consider talking to someone who actually know this stuff, like a doctor or psychiatrist.

Best of luck on coming to terms with your family!

    Random guy,

I have been looking this up a bit... It is a little bit worrying...

At his point, although there are some "symptoms" that match, at this point I am undecided so will continue looking into it a little more...

Know this dear Crash, you're going to get all sorts of guff and advice from all over the board, but ultimately it is up to you. There are a bunch of people here that understand and care about you, as much as virtual peeples can do given the circumstances and medium, you're not a silly and I am sure you'll have it figured out too I hope you are well, please not to be too analytical of us simple ones eh, we may never have met, but it doesn't stop us from caring

    Ogsonofgroo,

Much appreciated! Thank you so much.

The comments and advice that people make here are very valuable, and I agree, at the end of the day I must decide for myself...

But it is interesting as I had never considered even thinking about anything like this in regard to myself...

Perhaps I will sleep a bit more.

I think it best not to try and do a self-diagnosis using the internet.

A common cold could appear to be black death on the internet.

I think I will continue my journey of discovery and recovery by pushing on forward.

If I am suffering from Post Traumatic Stress, then that will have to be sorted out, but I do not feel stable enough to even consider that right now.

I am continuing with real life and am finding that I resist treating myself to "normal" things...

I have just booked some tickets to the theatre! WOW! I am 48 this year and have never seen a West End Show...

And still, I have this feeling in the back of my mind that I am wasting money and shouldn't be so frivolous! So I am going, despite the little voice nagging me not to.

But I think it is part of recovery... I might actually go out for a meal as well!

I hope you are all making progress and are well and happy

Perhaps my sleep will come again, peaceful and restful - That would be welcome.

    Crash

You are right. Self diagnosis is risky, remote diagnosis (like I did) is doubly so. If you feel you have a problem you don't know how to deal with, I'd see a professional. At worst he'll say you just worry too much and you will just have wasted a few hours of your life.

You are wasting money, but spending a bit of money on yourself every now and then is part of normal human behaviour. Life would be very bleak if we allways denied ourselves small moments of pleasure.

    Have a nice night out!

    Crashed,

Here's a story you might find helpful. It's not short but it is well worth reading to the end.
