(Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, I'm just some guy on the Internet. Do not treat what I suggest as a diagnosis)
Extreme recall, with strong emotions, of long ago vents that themselves were strong experiences, is something one sees with PTSS/Vietnam syndrome/shell shock (take your pick). As you decompress and enter normal society, it may be that the real effect of things you experienced years ago are coming to the surface. Maybe. Or I may be way off.
Were I in your shoes, I would consider talking to someone who actually know this stuff, like a doctor or psychiatrist.
Best of luck on coming to terms with your family!
