    ■ GLEBE: An elderly Church of Scientology staffer was robbed of a suitcase of money and his colleague was threatened with a machete in an attack last Friday. Leichhardt police said the staffers were walking along Greek St about 4.15pm. As they crossed Broadway carpark on Bay St, a large, solidly-built man ran grabbed the suitcase from behind. The handle broke as he struggled with the 72-year-old victim. The thief ran back towards Greek St and the other staffer chased him. A second offender, wielding a large machete, approached and the chaser backed off. A third man, who was driving a black BMW, fled with the men. Police said the registration was for a confirmed stolen BMW taken during a break and enter at Bellevue Hill last month.
Wow WTF! Can anyone provide more info?

The 72 year old victim was probably John Waterhouse. Wayne might have been there but I think he's younger (?).

I feel very sorry for John, he's a lovely guy and will be wondering wtf? he did to "pull it in".

I'm guessing it would have been the standard Friday banking, Pooks. They're very predictable.

What the hell is he doing with "a suitcase of money"? Where was he taking it? How did the robbers know an elderly man would be carrying a suitcase of money anyway? Who pays with cash these days -- at least to the tune of a "suitcase" full of it?

    This is an inside job.

I am very glad that nobody got hurt, yet. I can't help but just not feel sorry for COS at all, what I feel is that lovely old schadenfreud. I am sure the sec checking an PTS handlings will be long and torturous, the liability condition and amends making by the robbed for having the sheer bloody affront to get robbed will be even more arduous, poor buggers will probably have to pay the money back personally from their paltry pay. And yet, I am sure Scientology has an insurance policy against such losses, so will get the money back that way and the money from from poor pts staffer, so scientology comes up trumps either way. Hip Hip Hooray!!
A general loathing of a gang or sect usually has some sound basis in instinct.

I know we don't care about the money. But I know we do care about the severe Ethics handling that those guys are going to be going through. And given how Ethics can sometimes get out of control I could picture the whole staff having to go through hell.

We need to get money to the bank, I know what, we'll give a suitcase of cash to a senior citizen!

Glebe is a hotbed of criminality, Rog, and I'm not just talking about the CofS!

Some of Sydney's most notorious and a multitude of petty crims live and work out of Glebe. I well remember the shock and dismay of many ANZO Public when we first learned of the AO's relocation there. Glebe is also full of artists, it kinda reminds one of Hubbard's "Earth as a Prison Planet" story.
