Default Marty's BOOK description - sound familiar?

More on Marty's new book, from Marty's blog

    http://markrathbun.wordpress.com

    [comments inserted in brackets]:

Description: The first critical treatment of Scientology that seeks to identify and correct what is wrong with it rather than merely expose or advocate against the subject [Not so, see next post below].

A handbook for former, current, and prospective members.

The book can help to heal the damage done by MISuse [caps added] while rehabilitating any positives [See below] derived from Scientology.

The book also serves to proof up an individual against being harmed by MISapplication [caps added] of Scientology in the future. [Already been done, and with no hidden propaganda message]

As the first simple accurate description of the philosophy from its introductory to its most advanced levels [already been done], the book will inform those interested in Scientology as no other book before.

Using the old glue analogy, IMO, Scientology, as designed by its founder, consists of two main aspects: the solvent (truths, abreaction/catharsis/"key-out" etc.), and the lacquer (the sea of words, half truths, falsehoods, smoke and mirrors, gimmicks, tricks, manipulation, etc.) In the proper ratio, these combine to make a mind-glue that sticks a person to Scientology.

Currently, Miscavige has screwed up the ratio of solvent and lacquer with too much lacquer and not enough solvent. (Without solvent, glue doesn't "work.")

Conveying the idea that there is both a positive outer display coating which is ultimately subordinate, and also a negative hidden core which is ultimately dominant, can be difficult. It seems that the laws of nature, the laws of the human mind, and perhaps the laws of the human nervous system make recognizing both aspects difficult.

Scientology is a secretive and manipulative doctrine with a truth-coating. The truth-coating is displayed while the negatives are often hidden or disguised; or, when they no longer can be denied, are rationalized or "spun."

The "Scientology package" is both positive and negative. Scientology is a carefully crafted (by its founder) mix of "Black Scientology" and "White Scientology," resulting in Scientology.

Currently, about as far as "Independent" Scientologists can venture is to assert that corporate Scientology's current leader, David Miscavige, uses "Black Scientology." Beyond that, things become foggy for them.

    Messiah or Madman?

The book L. Ron Hubbard, Messiah or Madman? has been published in three English language editions, each further revised and updated
(1987, 1992, and 1996.) There is also a hardbound Russian language edition that became available in 2005.

Unlike most other books on Scientology, 'Messiah or Madman?' examines both the "positives" and "negatives" of the subject. Part of its purpose was to inoculate others from the tricks and abuses of Scientology.

An excerpt from the book flap for the 464 page 1996 edition:

"I have high hopes of smashing my name
into history so violently that it will take a
legendary form even if all the books are
destroyed. That goal is the real goal as far as
I am concerned. Things which stand too
consistently in my way make me nervous.
It's a pretty big job. In a hundred years
Roosevelt will have been forgotten - which
gives some idea of the magnitude of my
attempt. And all this boils and froths inside
    my head...
"Psychiatrists, reaching the high of the
dusty desk, tell us that Alexander, Genghis
Khan and Napoleon were madmen. I know
    they're maligning some very intelligent
    gentlemen."

    L. Ron Hubbard wrote these words in a letter to
    his first wife in 1938.

In 1950 he wrote the bestseller 'Dianetics, the
Modern Science of Mental Health. This inspired a
layman oriented mental health movement which,
ultimately, developed into Scientology, the most
profitable of the money-making new religions.

Hubbard's early Dianetic and Scientology writings
borrow freely from Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and
the founder of General Semantics, Alfred Korzybski.

And P.T. Barnum appears to have been an inspiration.

Hubbard also took much from the writings of Aleister
    Crowley - self-proclaimed "Beast 666." This is a source
of embarrassment for the Scientology Church, which
is determined to achieve broad public acceptance.

In the 1960s Hubbard incorporated Brainwashing
methodologies into the subject. He established the
"Fair Game Policy" which states that an "enemy" of
Scientology "may be deprived of property or injured
by any means by any Scientologist, without
discipline of that Scientologist. May be tricked,
    sued, lied to or destroyed."

He also became the Commodore of his own private
navy, and began to refer to himself as "Source."

    L. Ron Hubbard, Messiah or Madman? exposes
as never before the dark side of Scientology, yet
contains an in-depth examination of the potential
positives of the subject and their actual origins.

Below is a combination and an extension of 'Messiah or Madman?'s 'Brainwashing manual' chapter, and its 'Scientological Onion' chapter:

Quoting from the 'Brainwashing Manual Parallels' Epilogue:

    Epilogue
    Freeing the Positives

"....Examining and 'sorting out' the subject would be worthwhile task. Doing so would not only educate as to the details of its dominant 'dark side', but would also make possible the freeing of what good may be found within it."

    __________

The "positives" - separated from the over-all subject - would no longer be Scientology, but another subject.

Claiming that the "positives" ARE the subject, as Marty is doing, continues the lie, and the fraud - a lie and a fraud that has been used by Scientology for decades.

Marty seems to have done some "borrowing" from others, without attribution, while, at the same time adding his own cult of L. Ron Hubbard/blame Miscavige slant.

This post is meant to be an inoculation against Marty's slick public opinion manipulation. I hope it does some good.

    LOL at "prospective members".

Marty's going to need a miracle. Perhaps this will encourage him:

It's a very clever cover. [Above is not the cover, but close.]

It's funny how times change. People such as Paulette Cooper, and others from the 1970s and 1980s, who were sued, harassed, and dirty-tricked, would have been delighted if all they had been subjected to were guys - who, generously, provided entertaining visual fodder for future PR by very visably and overtly "attacking" - in camera hats and squirrel buster t-shirts.

This discussion (re. Keystone cops, Fair Game-lite) occurred a while back, and I won't rehash it, except to note that Marty Rathbun's treatment is mild compared to what others experienced in the past.

Even Jesse Prince commented on the difference in how Rathbun is treated and others, including himself ten years ago, were treated.

There are no lawsuits, just guys in camera hats, and there haven't been any affidavits - of consequence - from Marty or Mike.

Both Miscavige and Rathbun&Rinder are behaving in a restrained fashion.

This is a PR war, with each side busy protecting and promoting the "good name" of L. Ron Hubbard, and the "legacy" and future of Scientology, while having a feud which allows Marty&Mike to effectively use Hubbard's public ("wog") opinion manipulation tech, which establishes them as the true&good on-Source Scientologists fighting the out-tech, off-policy, off-Source anti-Scientologists, the bad Miscavologists.

"...With all the Private Investigator activity that Marty and Mike were reporting, in my opinion what they were reporting seemed lame and tame. In my experience with the same activity perpetrated by the Scientology conglomerate legal and intelligence dis-abler mechanism (Which Marty and Mike were a significant part of), my experiences with Private Investigator activity were far more extreme. Comparatively speaking, it seemed to me that Marty and Mike were having more of a lovers spat [with Miscavige] as opposed to a real showdown."

    Jesse Prince

I posted this thread in anticipation of what's coming. And short of a major gaffe by Rathbun, it appears possible that he may have outmaneuvered some folks.

I don't think he needs a miracle. I think he just needs to be somewhat clever.

If what's in the book is half as clever as the cover, I hope we have more than Bronx Cheers in our arsenal.

    _________________________________________________

I think a new level of stupid has just been achieved.

A Scientologist (Marty Rathbun) wants people to stop hating and fearing Scientology.

He wants wogs to think Scientology is a good thing.

So he publishes a book that has crazy-crazy Scientologists on the cover, applying Scientology Fair Game and attacking squirrels.

In a Scientologist's mind this will increase Affinity, Reality & Communication to Ron Hubbard and Scientology.

You heard me. Showing lunatic OT's that were created with Scientology, as a way to try to make Scientology look good.

What is Wrong With Scientology Scientologists?!!

I think it is an awful book cover.

It looks like something some non-professional would throw together on their home computer as a place-holder. The font (single) is terrible. There is too much blank field. My remaining comments relate to the image and the wording, not the typographical representation of the words.

The title is OK, if misleading!

The photo is stupid. It is amusing to people like us, and it fits great with captions like "A world without insanity" where the reader knows the context. But who is the book intended for? Marty's sycophants will lap it up, but they would lap up a book containing his breakfast menus. What would the photo mean to a non-Scio who is not an inveterate Scn-watcher? All I think it would convey — without further research by the reader — is three guys doing something ridiculous, but exactly what would be unknown.

"Healing through understanding" is a very bland non-gripping subtitle that could relate to any nicey-nice talk therapy whatsoever. WTF does it have to do with the disharmonious crap above it? It seems to be completely disrelated to the main title. If one already knows what the book is about, it's no problem: Marty is going to present the good bits of Scn, while thrusting some bad bits in one's face to try and make it interesting. What is on the cover right now doesn't show that at all, but merely a confused message.

It's OK to have the author's name on the cover.
