The welcome people receive on ESMB has a lot to do with how they present themselves, especially in their first few posts. I would think a majority lurk and read for quite a while before putting a toe in the water, which is a sensible thing to do, and is really when you can read for weeks and start the deprogramming, and decide if you want to be part of the rough and tumble of getting to the truth.

People who have loud trumpets and have made a 'name' for themselves, like Wendy, are going to receive a welcome based on past performance. I haven't read Marty's blog, but if she is there doing the 'mega theta thing', then that is where she is at, and looking no further. That's where she belongs then and only here when she is at the point of truly wanting to understand. And it's very early days.

I think Arnie needs to add a new step to his 8 Steps Out Of Scientology and that is

#3) Miscavige and crew are evil demons from another dimension
[ or something similar ] via stopover at Marty's Blog/Indie scene.

She may well never learn some very important things, some people don't. Sorry, but in her case I only see her at the first step on the path out. Well... maybe the second. It's good that her 'departure' may influence others, and really that's the only thing about it all that interests me. I don't see any reason her past disgusting behaviour towards the Ferals for example, should not be addressed, and if she comes here it certainly will be.

Excellent post! I never considered it before but there doesn't seem to be any room for the quintessential "Big Being" on ESMB.

I think lower and intermediate level Scn auditing can be very good for unburdening heartbreak and things like that. Like the Grades.

But, you know, I honestly feel I have been getting just as much- possibly more, even- out of my meditation than I had with the other.

Now, getting back to Scn- I think that outside CofS, being away from that, pursuing Scn on one's own terms isn't intrinsically toxic. However, that being said, I sometimes wonder if it isn't a bit arbitrary and, thus, limiting.

Hope you dont mind my saying this. I don't believe I'll ever be one of those who think getting TRs, Scn auditing and whatnot outside CofS is going to make a person go to hell in a handbasket or whatever. But there is something to be said for a broad view.

When I meditate, it feels rather consciousness-expanding.

Of course. Then that means it's one method of a number of 'em. Which is what I've been saying for a long time. Which meams then, that it's another ideological path that can be taken, same as opting to do anything else.

And, no, didn't find any side effects to doing the grades. Or TRs. Or word clearing. The side effects seem to mainly be with the indoctrination in CofS, what they do, and possibly some problems with Ls and some of the upper OT levels.

The only "side effect" that could be found with doing a set of TRs in ones' home, reading a book, doing some word clearing, getting some Grade auditing on problems or communication is evidently the fact that with those, it's one overly delineated path and other info and ideas are left out. So the lower and intermediate levels, processes and techniques of Scn would have that in common with the pursuit of very structured elder religions. I've noticed the same thing with them.

Yes, $cn "works" & does so much like walking works = I can get from here to NY walking... it works. I can also FLY in a commercial airplane to NY. But, walking "works".

Those that want the trappings of a cult can be convinced that "works" too - but works to do what ?

But those who want the slow boat to China ( or nowhere ) get to take it.....meanwhile there are jets at the airport going to known destinations !

To me- apart from cofS- if I'm just speaking of Scn as a practice and set of theories, it's just another path.

YMMV with all that stuff.
