Good lord but this thread has me laughing so much. Maybe I am overtired but I love both the subtle and the over the top humor.http://www.amazon.com/review/RE7FXDDJ7EW2N/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#RE7FXDDJ7EW2N
An Indee I do not know named Wayne Frowmke and I have been having a chat, mostly about LRH I guess, in the comments after my review of Marty's book on Amazon:
Of the 11 comments on my review, six are of him and I chatting back and fourth with each other.
I have been going out of my way to be nice and I suspect he has as well.
But after trying to be so nice on the topic, I then look at this thread and just can't stop laughing at the irreverent humor
Keep the true strength known as 'kindness'. Have the vision to see good in all. Nurture those who you do truly love. And never think that you are small. Combine all this with love and that is my way home.
Proposals for titles and cover illustrations for Marty Rathbun's second book, a biography of L. Ron Hubbard, are now being accepted for consideration on this thread.
L. Ron Hubbard, Misunderstood Genius
Well, you get the idea. We want people to at least stop besmirching L. Ron Hubbard's and L. Ron Hubbard's Scientology's good name, and, ideally, to make them r_e_a_c_h for L. Ron Hubbard and L. Ron Hubbard's Scientology.

He gave Mankind the Bridge to Freedomand sacrificed himself doing soI haven't looked at those reviews in a while, but will. Your review was excellent. I did read your exchange (earlier) with Wayne, and, perhaps, he's closer to also laughing about L. Ron Hubbard than he realizes. When they start laughing, it's a sign that they're about to "graduate" from Scientology, and become Ex-Scientologists.
It's a Bridge, dammit,
it IS a Bridge!

There are lots of images, and Marty's blog and inspired pieces, such as Marty's 'Ode to L. Ron Hubbard', offer more ideas for titles, but this thread doesn't seem to be catching on.
Anyway! Happy 4th of July in the USA!

It's strange that poor old L Ron Hubbard had such a hard-on for "word clearing" and yet he didn't seem to know that you don't go up a bridge. You go across a bridge, and then you leave it behind you and continue on to your own destination.
Hubbard's unfinished bridge offers nothing useful. They even show it as being useless in their promotional literature. Unless you're a bungie jumper, a bridge no nowhere provides nothing except a quick means of suicide.
Personally, I think LRH called it a bridge as a private joke, and was probably secretly appalled that so few of the saps saw the scam for what it was. Hubbard would have heard about George Parker (died 1936) who "sold" the Brooklyn Bridge dozens of times... and to add some spice to the Scientology 'game' he played with his victims, he proceeded to "sell them a bridge". (Parker's story was the origin of the phrase "...and if you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you.")
Hard to believe that Hubbard got away with it, but there we are. So perhaps that's the best title for a biography detailing Hubbard's most lucrative con.

I suspect it's a reference to mythology where a bridge is often seen as separating mortals from the divine realms. In Norse legend Valhalla is entered by ascending a bridge from the mortal realms. Similarly the rainbow often figures as just such a bridge which divinities may descend to enter into the mortal realms. For this reason to the greeks, Iris, goddess of the rainbow, served as a messenger from the gods.
