    Default Newbie

    Hi all,

I have posted a few times, I am not a former or current member of hubbardism, I don't mind the Xenu story or other silly concepts, as I believe in silly concepts (I am LDS) but the Co$ makes me angry for the outright abuse that it inflicts on its members and how it is the perfect scam to scam people out of a ton of money. That and I remember how wrong i felt when the Co$ had police raid folks houses for copyright infringement, which to me caused all sorts of alarm bells to go off back in the 1990s.

Edit: Should be Newbie, not Nebie.

Maybe you could ask one of the moderators to change this to Newbie for you, if they are able to.

If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones. I am not afraid.'

Do you believe in indoctrinating kids with silly concepts and controlling people's lives with silly concepts?

I guess we better start off and saying "What do you mean by control and indoctrinating?" As i seen definitions all over the place online, and I don't know you enough that when you use that term it may not match what I think of in those terms.

    For example

Forcing your kid to go to church with the rest of the family - I have no problems with this.

Teaching your kids what the parents believe in. - I think that is a parents right, of course, the kids have a right to choose there own path.

Forcing your kid in Sea Org before they are adults - Heck no

Chasing people who have "blown", pressing on "freeloader debt" and all that stuff - Heck no.

Welcome DrGong! There is nothing about Scientology to agree with. There is no religious aspect of Scientology - it is all "religious cloaking" for tax exempt status and free labor as well as "justice" within the walls so no one knows what happens to people.

Scientology is an evil cult - so I would not even try to compare it to religions. Typically people in most churches in this world do not die, commit suicide, file BK, shattered families - BECAUSE of their CHURCH! Well, in Scientology - they do.

I am curious as to why you are here? Not an ex - I cannot even imagine going to a Ex mormon board to post - no interest and have a life to live. What's up?

That's a loaded question with a pejorative statement.

It's a "Do you still beat your wife?" type statement.

One person's beliefs may be another person's silly concept.

Religions may sometimes emphasize the metaphosr and lose track of the concepts.

But religious beliefs aren't generally silly concepts.

I know people who think democracy and free will are silly concepts.

And they can make cogent arguments for their views.

I don't think "religious" is an issue for me here. And silliness, in itself is not an issue for me. What is an issue for me is if people control others with concepts. I suppose some would say we all do it to some extent. I am thinking more about concepts such as those used in the scientology cult. There are lots of them and each one on its own might not have much power, although some may be very powerful.
Concepts such as infestation with body thetans, all sorts of concepts about "thetan", concepts in so-called "confessional" processes, concepts about who can redeem a person, the concept that redemption is needed, what for etc.

A lot of those are called "religious" now, but as I said that is just positioning.
I don't like the idea of children being indoctrinated with those ideas with the idea of bringing the kid(s) under the control of more and more such ideas..and of course the ideas that a person should shut down critical thinking, which is in there too.

The OP said he/she doesn't mind silly ideas and referred to Xenu or "other silly concepts" and said he/she is LDS. I took that LDS statement as a parallel, saying both "religions" have (similar?) silly concepts...or concepts which are maybe, just similar in their silliness. To me, the "silly concepts" is how the cult entraps people and keeps them entrapped. There is physical abuse too, and the reason it is put up with for so long is that "silly concepts" have been used to disempower people to the point they will allow it and even defend it.

So, are the LDS's silly concept indoctrinated into kids as they are in scientology?
Are the LDS concepts as dangerous as scientology's concepts? If they are as silly,
and if they are indoctrinated into kids then I think they might be dangerous.

I was raised part of my childhood as a Catholic. No where near as dangerous as scientology IMO, (as long as I did not go to boarding school etc). Some people might think they are quite benign....they do some good charitable works...but still
they have some silly concepts too. Some of them are quite damaging in different ways. They gave me some concepts when I was very young, but I think I had an easier time thinking critically about them later because I was nine years old when they first started their version of brainwash on me; they were not quite quick enough. It's doesn't seem a big deal now, but it was earlier. Tremendous guilt and fear, all held there with the glue of "silly concepts"....
