Yes indeed! For adults freeing themselves from a cult when they still have children ~in~ is very very complicated.... and intensely painful. Jenna M. Hill's new book is awesome sharing sharp focus on that
unique family matter and the ugly $cn influences.
I hope and pray that the mother of my children will someday surface here on ESMB or OCMB wanting to connect w/ ex's as finally seeing the light of the scam.
Happy Easter to all, tp
I'm just reading that bit. You're very kindly as describing them as influences.
The parents were not allowed to contact Jenna before they left, and they were sent to Mexico. Jenna was asked by a third party (Rathbun&Rinder personally) whether she wanted to leave with her parents (who had been estranged from her courtesy of the cult). Jenna thought she would rather stay with the friends she knew in the cult, rather than be separated from them forever (courtesy of the cult). She got ONE phonecall to her mother, which was monitored by Rathbun in the next room.
Of course, after telling her parents she wanted to stay with her friends, Jenna was shipped across the country to live with different people altogether - where every minute of her day was monitored.
More like heavy handed control of every aspect of her life.

Jump, you obviously get this! I've had the privilege of getting to know the daughter and son of Tom & Laura Padgett -- they are awesome kids...although adults now. They have zero to do with scientology now, and haven't for many years. Speaking out like Jenna, Tom, and many others have done in the present and past, is so important to capture and memorialize. I'm still struggling with why the ESMB poster "Pooks" has such distain for me when arrived here last year.
When a cult screws with your life, it is one thing. However, when they mess with young children, the gloves come off without deliberation -- parental instinct is a powerful powerful force to reckon with.![]()

The thing is, the tech is powerful. By that, I mean it shape-shifts according to the needs of the church. Because of the 'no gossip', 'no case out of session' etc, and the invention of appropriate shore stories and spin and 'special briefings', it is difficult to see the unbalanced and inconsistent application of 'ethics'. For example, some parents are coerced to give their children over to the sea org 'for their benefit', or worse to appease a blockage to their tech advancement. Yes, it is a seriously sick system.
Some situations mean that the gloves have to stay firmly on, because.. whatever it is that will keep them on. Like Room 101 in Orwell's 1984, 'ethics' taps into your greatest fears (buttons). It's different for everyone.
I agree that messing with young children like they do is reprehensible.
