I think debunking Hubbard's claims about the e-Meter is the scientific equivalent of shooting fish in a barrel. I'm not sure you will get any serious scientists interested.

Also, 50 000 people believing the e-Meter proves that they were aliens in past lives is less harmful to public policy than a lot of other anti-scientific beliefs held by millions.

Perhaps, but we'll never, never know if we never, never go.

I'm sure a lot of mileage could be had just by going through Scientology materials, pulling out all the statements that are scientifically testable and reviewing scientific literature to see what is already discredited.

And that could be achieved with no more sophisticated equipment than a decent library.

However, doesn't Fundamentals of Thought basically claim that Thetan > physics, giving people who want to believe Hubbard over reality a pat answer that doesn't trouble their world view?

Just my opinion.
One could always contact the "expert" and point out how he missed the boat and looks like an idiot to the tens of thousands of people who have had even rudimentary training on a meter. He doesn't have to believe the Hubbard explanations. He merely needs to do something as simple as:

    1. An underwater test where he is not touching the cans (can just have bare wires in two cups and stick fingertips in like the video here) that will show that sweat and grip have nothing to do with it really

    2. Some kind of "stress test" or something where something of his that is charged reads on the meter and he can connect the two.

These two have to be done with someone who has had enough sleep etc. so that the needle is responsive and not stuck.

And the "expert" needs to be willing to be honest, which might be the hardest one to pull off if the program editor has already decided what the result will be.

One good place to start would be with Tony Ortega. He seems like an honest guy. I know Mark sent him an email on the subject, but haven't seen the outcome.

I agree with Panda here - I actually had the reporter into some early childhood trauma and was successfully steering him into it then pulled out. Told him I didn't want to get him into something that I couldn't help him with.

NEVER was a session happening there.

IF I ever do media again (highly unlikely - I'm not even gonna be on here for a while as I have too much else to do with my life right now) I'll try to explain in soundbites why it doesn't work on palm sweat or body reaction. I did do that but it got lost in the two hours of filming and chatting we did when we shot this nearly two weeks ago.

Walked into work this morning and there were a couple of guys chatting in the driveway - one stopped the other with an "Excuse me for a second" then asked me "Can I book in some auditing with you this afternoon?"

    We both cracked up.

Anyway, I think it's another bit of the inoculation-against-cult program "we" have been successfully running - anybody want the job of "Expert-in-cult-affairs?"

Like Zhent, I'm sick of dealing with it.

Thanks, Scoots. Yes, I saw the guy go "into session" and don't doubt for a moment that your Auditor presence is still as effective as it ever was.

I'd like to take this opportunity to Thank You sincerely for all your hard work over the last 4 years, you've done a great deal and it's VERY appreciated.
