Thread: How many countries are the cult really in?

I haven't gone through the entire thread, so I may be re-reconfirming, but there is still only one org in the Netherlands and no missions. The list of donors for their Ideal Org has 250 names on it, which is a reliable tally for their membership. The only other reliable number is from 1984, when they had 320 members.

There are probably dozens of abandoned Scientology buildings. eg

California, La Mesa, 7380 Parkway Drive, on Freeway 8, a former college campus, bought in 2008 for $9.3M and apparently abandoned to skateboarders and squatters.

Georgia, Atlanta, Sandy Spirings. A nice house in a good neighbourhood, left empty and not maintained.

Gateshead, Tyneside, in the north of England. Derelict.

    Birmingham, UK. Apparently abandoned.

So what do we do with them? Separate list? They are not a sign of CoS activity, rather the reverse.
I'm putting together the list now, and am about half-way through this thread, now. I'd love comments on as many countries as possible.

I made it through the thread just now. It was good to refresh myself on it. There are three lists in development, and for the time, I'll put the Narconon one aside, since this list is Missions and Orgs (recent & updated count). There is my tame list and Soffie's actual count by Country > City > Type, which is amazing.

Here is the basic country count:

Sorry I've been away in a different world for a while. I think the SuperList is based on the 2009 list compared with your original list of countries, with the Nos taken out, so most of them taken out in fact.

This is David Miscavige's list of new SuperOrgs. Mr Miscavige is the driving force of a movement spanning the globe. The current situation is entirely his doing. He said so. Church premises increased from 5.6 million square feet in 2004 to over 11.5 million by the beginning of the new decade (never use one word when six will do), with a million and a half square feet of renovations completed in the last two years and over a quarter of a million square feet now under construction. The Little Guy likes Big Figures.

I still haven't found the date but it serves to show progress, or lack of it. I am only familiar with the UK situation and it is negative, negative, negative, negative.

New Properties in planning or construction stage projected to open in 2012-2013

US: Albuqueque, Battle Creek, Boston, Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Harlem, Kansas City, New Haven, Philadelphia, Portland, San Diego, San Fernando Valley. St Louis.

    Canada: Toronto, Montreal.

    UK: Birmingham, Manchester, Plymouth, Sunderland.

    Europe: Copenhagen, Budapest, Basel.

Latin America: Bogota, Las Lomas, Caracas, Valencia.

Africa: Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Bulawayo, Harare (in Zimbabwe).

Australia, New Zealand and Asia: Sydney, Auckland, Kaosiung.

In January 2013 CoS claimed to have more than 11,000 centres in 167 nations.
From their own websites, they had 465 'churches' in 60 countries.

The is now a complete listing on the Scientology.org website. Mike has blogged about this today.

Mike arrived at a different count than I did, so would to do double checked, but I arrived at the following:

    Number of Orgs: 153.
    Number of Missions: 346
Total number of Orgs plus Missions: 499
    Total number of Countries: 60.

I'll do a comparison between our list and the list on Scientology.org in the next post for a few countries.

    Ok. UK is first.

Both listings are the same except for the following:
Brighton is still listed on Scientology.org
Southampton is still listed on Scientology.org

So, they removed most of the defunct locations, which I think is remarkable.

Does anyone want to comment on the two differences?

    Some more:

Scientology.org lists 44 missions in Russia, rather than 30. They also list 18 missions in Taiwan, rather than 10.

The mission which was reported to be closed in Macedonia is still on their list.
