Scientology’s troubled flagship drug rehab facility in Oklahoma — Narconon Arrowhead — was hit with five additional lawsuits today, all filed by Gary Richardson, the attorney who is handling four other wrongful death and fraud suits against the center.

The claim in these lawsuits that Narconon is a front organisation controlled by and recruiting for Scientology is of particular interest. It would be really good to see that proven in court, and would make a difference to Narconon's fortunes worldwide. Although given that's the case, they'll probably settle.

Man...it sucks to be David Miscavige. I am happy to see he is being hit where it hurts, the wallet. He has harmed so many people through his actions and lies that it is only befitting that he and his thugs are reaping these lawsuits.

5 More Lawsuits Filed Against Narconon Arrowhead Rehab Facility

By Tess Maune, News On 6

    Excerpt:

In the suit filed by former student Sue Ann Newman and her sister, Dena Shobe, they claim Narconon offered them a no-interest loan to pay the $15,000 tuition. Two months after Newman was admitted to the facility, they allegedly told her that deal was never approved. Shobe then claims to have received credit cards in the mail, she claims were applied for in her name by Narconon, without her permission. The cards, with an interest rate of 23 percent, had $14,500 charged to them; the exact amount Narconon had billed her for her sister's treatment, the suit says.

Five more lawsuits filed against Narconon Arrowhead

Five lawsuits filed Thursday allege that an Oklahoma drug rehabilitation facility engaged in false representation, fraud and deceit in its dealing with patients.

Narconon Arrowhead's program "has the appearance of being nothing more than a pyramid scheme and sham" that operates to extort money while acting as a recruiting tool for the Church of Scientology, according to one of the lawsuits filed Thursday in Pittsburg County District Court.

The other four lawsuits, brought by former Narconon patients or their family members, make similar claims.

Other still-pending lawsuits were previously filed in connection with deaths at the facility.

Gabriel Graves, 32, of Claremore died Oct. 26, 2011; Hillary Holten, 21, of Carrollton, Texas, died April 11, 2012; and Stacy Murphy, 20, of Owasso died July 19, 2012.

5 new suits filed against Narconon Arrowhead; plaintiffs claim breach of contract, fraud

    Last Updated: 4 minutes ago

MCALESTER, Okla. - Five new lawsuits were filed Thursday against the embattled drug and alcohol treatment facility in Pittsburg County. Narconon Arrowhead's international and state chapters were also named in the suit.

Court documents show the plaintiffs -- only two of whom are in the state of Oklahoma, according to attorney Gary Richardson -- are claiming fraud, false representation, breach of contract, non-disclosure and civil conspiracy.

Plaintiffs say they ended up paying thousands of dollars for treatment for family members -- treatment that was never received -- and in fact, Narconon representatives fraudulently claimed they could provide "a medically appropriate facility for the treatment of drug and alcohol addictions, including counseling, licensed therapists..."
However, they say they later learned there were no doctors on staff and most of the counselors were former addicts with no qualifications.

The suits allege the program is nothing more than a scheme to finance and recruit for the Church of Scientology.

Lawsuits allege Narconon Arrowhead counselors traded sex for drugs

    By Jeanne LeFlore
    Staff Writer
McALESTER — Narconon Arrowhead counselors allegedly traded drugs for sex and fraudulently charged a patients credit card some $14,500 according to allegations found in five lawsuits filed Thursday against the facility. The lawsuits were filed Thursday in Pittsburg County District Court.

Also among the allegations the suits say Narconon influenced a grandmother to take out a $7,000 loan to “save her grandson’s life” and Narconon charged some $14,500 to a credit card obtained without the cardholders knowledge.

Narconon Arrowhead officials contend their mission “has always been to help people overcome addiction and prevent kids from becoming addicts ... and the lawsuits are “financially motivated and have no foundation of truth ...”

Narconon Arrowhead is a non-profit drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Canadian affiliated with the Church of Scientology that has been under investigation after several Narconon patients were found dead at the facility within a year. A fourth patient died while at the hospital. The deaths also spurred legislation to regulate facilities such as Narconon Arrowhead.

In February Senate Bill 295 was passed unopposed and is now set to go before the House Public Health committee this month before going for a House vote, according to co-author of the bill State Representative Jason Murphey (R-Guthrie).

“The purview is to give the department of mental health oversight of drug rehab facilities specifically due to concerns which began last summer at Narconon.” Murphey said. “I think (the bill) will do fine in the House.”

    There, I fixed it:

The main key to free a person from this cult is compassion. This is true of all cults, but it is especially true of Scientology, where, in the upper echelons, there isn't even any pretense of compassion. Showing compassion just might be the key to breaking through the person's cult identity and reaching the real person.
