Interesting study on BTB policy. (Bold is theirs)

However, our results support the concern that BTB policies encourage racial discrimination: the black-white gap in callbacks grew dramatically at companies that removed the box after the policy went into effect. Before BTB, white applicants to employers with the box received 7% more callbacks than similar black applicants, but BTB increased this gap to 43%. We believe that the best interpretation of these results is that employers are relying on exaggerated impressions of real-world racial differences in felony conviction rates.

Enantiodromia takes place in the face of force. Government enacts policies by force and forces outcomes. Virtually all of these actions bring about the conditions they're designed to prevent.

Especially statutory laws/policies. It is these laws that cannot think as opposed to common law that are the worst offenders. These actions punish the innocent. An example of that is gun laws. Someone shoots someone and we all lose liberties...except those intended targets of the law that don't follow the law.

The result is less gun control.

Government is uniquely positioned to benefit from the failure of it’s own policies or to hedge against their negative outcomes because crisis demands further intervention and for the government this means a mandate for expansion of the state: more government employees, more laws, more taxes, more control.

This also applies to the racism industry. Race problem solved - no industry.

But I have to wonder about Scientology’s position here. So they are getting behind BTB as part of their ongoing lobby alliance safe pointing project. BTB may sound good on the surface and they get brownie points for supporting it but now that they should know it causes businesses to respond with a broader avoidance strategy that causes larger rejections of blacks as a group, do they still expect to be viewed in a positive PR context or do they do the right thing and try to explain that this is a flawed approach to the problem? I believe Scientology is fundamentally opportunist. In other words, they will come down on the side of any issue be it left or right depending on their own self interests as opposed to what is the right thing to do on principle or what is the most rational and in this case the opportunist thing is to form alliances with the race industry.

It appears that “the box” not only weeds out black people with criminal histories from consideration for hiring, but it also qualifies black people for consideration. So by banning the box you remove it as a tool for creating a viable path towards getting hired for more black people than are disqualified. People could always lie on their application but if they are later discovered to have lied then they can be fired with good cause. But if you don’t let businesses even ask or discuss criminal histories then they must overcompensate on the side of caution with everyone.

Makes sense. If the employer is unable to verify qualifications, then the temptation is to exclude entire groups, if they have an above-average rate of unqualified.

No one with a blackmailable past can hold executive positions in Scientology (except Ron) and you must be clean as a whistle for HCO and the SO. IDK, perhaps preferably 6 foot tall and blonde and blue-eyed?

    What are your crimes?
Ludicrous, isn't it, what hypocrites COS and Scientologists are!

NOT ONLY does COS prohibit hiring those with a criminal past on staff (whether convicted or not, btw), BUT so do all the WISE companies and any other company that uses Scn tech. Unless, of course, they were committing criminal acts on behalf of the Church of Scientology itself. Those convicted criminals get celebrity status and high paying jobs. They even go on tours promoting Scientology. Have a look at Duke Snyder and Henning Heldt, ex-cons from Operation Snow White. http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthrea...-Henning-Heldt Ruthless ex GO and OSA staff get the red carpet treatment and all sorts of high positions in Scientology companies and a nice blind eye if they choose to continue to harass others and break laws on behalf of Scientology. Yes, COS wants to hire their OWN internal criminals, but not anyone else's!

COS wants OTHER companies to hire the other ex-felons. It has its hands full hiring and paying the ex-felons and criminals it creates for its own dirty work!

L Ron Hubbard was convicted for the crimes of cashing a bogus check (in San Luis Obispo in the late 1940's, he paid a fine) and for child abandonment in a vehicle (in Los Angeles shortly thereafter, he was sentenced to jail but instead paid a fine).
