And for myself, (perhaps this is just the scientologist in me) I want to avoid:

"Using the same principles of brain stimulation, applied in a different way, the NeuroProgrammer is also able to make the mind more receptive to Psychological intervention. NP2 can guide your mind to a relaxed, receptive mental state, increasing the success rate of Suggestions and enhancing the lucidity of mental imagery. When NP2 detects that you have reached this state, it will automatically use your choice of applied psychological techniques such as Suggestions, Affirmations or Hypnotic Scripts. These methods will help you make dramatic changes in your behavior, thought patterns and emotions. While in the receptive state created by NP2 , these techniques can bypass mental and emotional barriers that would normally make the mind resistant to change. This is what we call self-programming, and the effects of using it are dramatic."

I want to avoid the less than conscious assimilation of ideas. I want the "states" but not the "Suggestions, Affirmations or Hypnotic Scripts".

Right now I have a collection of different biaurals that go to different states, but I haven't bought the Monroe ones yet.

The ones I have are very effective though, similar to the best of unassisted meditation, etc.

I bought one of the Monroe products for my mother in laws migranes too, but havent got a full review from her yet.

I have been listening to biaurals for a while now and I am much calmer and more able to experience life than I was before. It started for me by ordering the free Centerpointe demo, http://www.centerpointe.com/centerpo...FQwcawod5hA9_Q and using it when I was stressed, It has a dramatic effect.

But the centerpointe system is also one with suggestions later in their program.

I would love to hear of your experiences with listening to biaurals, and also what you thing of Monroes experiences and particularly the paradigm he presents in "ultimate Journey".

I've been doing the "Gateway Experience" and I am also a member so I've received a few of the audio tapes by mail also. I highly recommend these books and audio tapes.

Hey Alex, Russel Targ is an amazing guy. He knew and worked with Ingo Swan, Hal Puthoff and Pat Price. Thanks for reminding me, I was meaning to get his books.

I still wonder how the aforementioned trio got through their security checks? Do you have any data on this?

I have found an application you can download for free and use for a couple of weeks called Neuroprogrammer which has a whole lot of prerecorded sounds, binaural beats etc. Its about $20 to buy. Generates alpha and theta waves. I have used those so far. Produces deep states of calm, better sleep for me, lots of positive stuff. Been on it about 4 weeks or so.
Like to hear others experiences with this sort of stuff.

I have used neuroprogrammer. It seems to have worked for inducing a longer more restorative sleep.

I have become more aware of how powerful music is in influencing mood.

"LIfeflow" claims a better technology - they give you a free trial.
I'm interested to hear about how much difference it makes to use the flashing goggles.
I would like to try an effective but not expensive method of having evidence
of brainwave changes while using these things. Some simple clip on thing that measures brainwaves - not an e-meter.

With neuroprorammer, using suggestions is completely optional. They can be selected or deselected. They can be heard (tried) so a decision can be made as to whether or not the user wants to actually use it.
There is not all the cultic mumbo jumbo that surrounds Monroe Institue.
With neuroprammer its just the recordings of the beats, with a few sounds
if desired and data about what the different beat patterns are supposed to achieve according to research that has supposedly been done. There is also a website discussion board and some techie types create their own recordings and offer them for (free) use.

But I like cultic mumbo jumbo!!

Yes, the Monroe Institute does seem to forward some "beliefs" along with their technology.

I tend to be like minded.

The Monroe site now has a discussion forum and if you peruse their other links you will see that The Monroe Institute seems to be well connected to people who are studying the subject much more objectively.

And me....I seem to like stuff "packaged" for me....

I can't keep up with this stuff. For me, 'spirituality' has little to nothing to do with wearing superman long johns, but, wasn't Monroe the guy who got shot in the head and then, presto changeo, got 'psychic'? How do you teach *that*??

I think the brain wave tech can be totally free of any need for "spiritual" baggage. Biofeedback is, I think, a scientifically proven method for producing desired change.
Brainwave entrainment has some science behind it, but many (including me) cannot say for sure that listening to binaural beats for x amount of time will produce x result. but I'm willing to experiment a bit. A practical use would be study - listening to beats which supposedly keep the brain producing a focussed but alert state. Anxiety, depression or general stress are likely to be lessened by spending time in a relaxed state helped along by litsening
to the right beats for that. I have read that Epileptics have been found not to produce the combination called SMR (I think), and a bit of training on that is suppsoedly therapeutic. The out of body experience thing ---I don't doubt that people have them and they could have significant effects of how people think about their relationships with self, and whatever ways they put together their abstract musings about "spiritual" things.
But even with those experiences, I don't think it's necessary to dream up 'spiritual" interpretations. I wouldn't mind OBEs if they feel good. I have had a lot of vivid dreams. A lot of flying dreams which seemed as real as waking life. I had these long before I tried the binaul beats, but I dont try to have them. I also have had dreams which were vivid or semi-vivid where nothing particulary wonderful happend. So when I woke up from those it just felt like I have been working all frigging night in my sleep! I want to rest when I go to sleep!
