Haven't heard of those but I was thinking of writing a couple books called "Scientology: the Old and Tired Then Cult" and "Scientology for the Gullible Few."

I've read A Piece of Blue Sky two or three times, and still think it's one of the best books on the subject. It took some guts to right that book in those days.

Bare Faced Messiah (1987) is a traditional biography and excellent. It's the only traditional bio on Hubbard.

Messiah or Madman? (1987) has three editions, each years apart, and each revised and updated. The first edition suffers from having been rushed to print due to litigation, and the second edition similarly suffered. The third edition (1996) is recommended.

Piece of Blue Sky was published in 1990 and is also recommended.

The three make a set. Each is different. Each complements the other.

An don't forget the Books on Scientology of the early 1970s:

    Someone's put it all on the Internet;

    http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Library/S...k/contents.htm

I assume (but don't know) that this has Jon's blessing.

He's OK with it, but if you can buy the book he would be even more OK

    Amazon Link

It must be good - it got heaps of 'black PR' Amazon-reviews lol
"I've read a great many books by Hubbard and others on the subjects of Dianetics and Scientology. This author is hopelessly misinformed and off the mark. Read what Hubbard says in one of his many books and then make your own decision. This is poor journalism at best. Scientology is a group that grows by leaps and bounds each year. Why? Because it has useful information that anybody can (and do)use to improve their life and the lives of those around them. And this is a bad thing? Your money would be better spent on a movie"

"Of course, if it's true that Mr. Hubbard was never injured during the war, then he never did heal himself using Dianetics principles,
then Dianetics is based on a lie, and then Scientology is based on a lie." - Tommy Davis

This was put on the Internet years ago. I'm sure he's fine with it.

    Default Atack Reloaded

For my money, Blue Sky is the place to start for any serious researcher.

Atack is working on a new book: not about Scientology, but on a related subject. I just posted some details at Infinite Complacency...

    Atack Reloaded

After years of silence Jon Atack, who literally wrote the book on Scientology,
made a brief but effective television appearance in May – and the good news
is, he is working on a new book.

Jon Atack, whose book A Piece of Blue Sky remains the definitive work on
Hubbard-era Scientology, made a fleeting appearance on British television in May.

Atack's television appearance does not signal a return to the front-line against Scientology: it is more of a one-off gig.

But the good news is, he is working on another book...

I'm glad it's on the net. I read it about five years ago. It's the only book I've read in it's entirety online ( while I was at work waiting for phone calls ) I was all ready out of Scn. but this book really helped 'false data strip' and fill in some gaps about Scn.'s past.
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Jesus.

    My life and Scn.

I found "Scientology for the Millions" at Amazon

    http://www.amazon.com/Scientology-Mi.../dp/B000TI6IWW

I remember it said: "Free yourself from emotional problems... use Scientology the amazing system that unites science ad the occult!" Ooooh I was sold!

I remember this as a balanced-to pro book. The xmas before I joined staff I gave one to every member of my extended family. Once I had the hook in my mouth, even anti or scary stuff seemed cool and exciting (1971). I was from a nice family. My father was horrified. He died 2 years later at just 63.
