What's happening with the San Diego Org?

A never-in friend of mine who passes by the "Scientology Center" every day on the way to work told me a couple of days ago that he saw a small "For Sale" sign on the side of the building. Does the cult own this building?

Lynn: I sent a PM to Xenubarb who regularly protests there. She responds:

"Yeah...the For Sale sign went up around 2008, just around the same time they acquired the Ideal Org property. However, the real estate agent is OTVIII J. Gerson, whose wife is often seen at the org. She seems to be something of a regular.

I wouldn't want to accuse them of some sort of real estate shenanigan with the downtown property, but I can't help squinting at them suspiciously."

Jonathan Ben Gerson owns Gerson Real Estate based in La Jolla.

    Hi Smurf:

You mean to tell me that an "Ideal Org" went up for sale?

Last I heard Jon Gerson was going blind and was living in Las Vegas.

No, the building housing the current org is up for sale. They have yet to move into the new Ideal Org in La Mesa, which I understand is still in serious disrepair.

I don't know Jonathan's current situation. I find no record of him living in Las Vegas and he & Christina still own their home on Morning Sun Drive in Encinitas.

Probably that move to La Mesa is never going to happen, perhaps they already squeezed the few scientologists left to the last penny.

As for Jon Gerson maybe Las Vegas is very old news, I've been out for more than 15 years.

Recent IAS mag mentions a couple called the Duggans. Apparently they've gotten the Meretorious Humanitarian Platinum Gold award from DM the past couple of years, instead of his BFF Tom Cruise.

The article mentioned a list of Ideal Org properties the Duggans funded, San Diego being one of them.

The parcel number no longer comes up in the La Mesa Tax Assessor page; they used to owe over $100,000 in taxes. For a while they were just paying off the penalties for late payment.

I went by the Ideal Org property the other day. The RV is not out back any more, so the chimney sweep sci who was living there is no longer squatting behind the buildings.

The property was mowed before the rainy season, so there's a great crop of grasses and weeds just sprouting. We saw kids on BMX bikes on the property, and the back fence still has gaps in it where trespassers have ripped the fence from the posts.

One of our anon cell used to be a structural engineer there when it was Coleman College. There is a 500 ft. wooden beam supporting the roof of the main building. It has been repaired several times. Also, one of the side buildings; the cement pad was poured incorrectly and runoff from the hill is undermining it.

One resident of the neighborhood told us that the 9" sewer pipe that serves the homes uphill from the idle org runs through the site and one condition of purchase was that the cult has to replace that pipe before any renovations may be undertaken.

The latest plan seems to be razing the buildings to put up a "mission style campus." The picture is clearly three separate mission style buildings copypasta'ed onto one picture. It has no thematic coherence and looks just like what it is; clipart assembled without much care or thought.

The Duggans may have enabled the SD org to purchase this $9 million property, but they still have to maintain it. Last year, we donned our masks and went through the neighborhood on Halloween, distributing fliers that listed the various city entities they can complain to about weed abatement, graffiti, weirdos living on the property, and other complaints.

I don't think they'll ever sell the downtown org. I think they'll lose the Ideal Org property first.

Wow. Why am I not surprised about the blindness? Well, Jon has diabetes and I remember back in the 80's how sick he got yet he refused to get appropriate medical care or accept that he had the disease enough to take care of it. The church didn't care as long as he was sticking with their program for him to buy mission ( which folded later).

AFAIK, he's still in Dan Diego. Looks way overweight cmpared to back in the 80s. http://www.gersonproperties.com/about.html

That is not the same Jon Gerson we knew in the 80's who was married to Rita.

This Jon who is in the picture came later to the Briefing Course from San Diego, he was a realtor back in the 90's and he was a flashy guy, he dressed nice. I think that he was on the OT committee and was an FSM. I knew him from the Org but he wasn't my friend.

Diana: There is a Johnathan Gerson, aged 59, living in Henderson, Nevada, who used to live in Las Vegas & Los Angeles. Possible match.

He looks like a man in his early 20's in this old pic.

That is the current org that has had a FOR SALE sign up since 2008.
Here is what the Idle Org looks like....the former Coleman College:
    http://forums.whyweprotest.net/7-chit-chat/march-pics-san-diego-idle-org-63506

It is a little less weedy now, but still looks like a warehouse suitable for a Costco, but not an "Ideal Org".

I have no idea what the cult would do if someone were to really buy the regular org...nothing has been done with idle org to make it ready to move into OR demolish it and build something new.

Yes, I can see him there by Rich Nesbitt and others. Yes, it must be a possible match.
Whose picture is this? Can I post it on my Facebook?

Okay. I just got a bunch of broken image links with the sole exception of the fire hydrant. So the new "ideal org" is hardly a masterpiece of aesthetic design then.

Hmmm.... Very interesting. Yet they're selling. I wonder if the people pulling the strings behind the scenes told them to do that, and why. Was it based on some long term analysis, or is it just a short term demand for cash-right-now-any-way-you-can-get-it?
