Extras used to fill empty seats at event?

One estimate so far is that attendance at last nights international event was 4000,

down from the last one at St. Hill of 8000. But possibly harder figures are to come.

From this below it would appear that COS was trying to hire extras to fill seats. Its well known, in critical circles at least, that one event used photo shopping in photo's to show a capacity crowd. Clearly that wouldn't work again!

A non Scientologist friend of mine, called me to ask if this address was for the same Saint Hill as “our” Saint Hill. It was in a casting call and yes it was the very same Saint Hill. She is an extra in London. Her agency sent out this casting call for extras.

What for? To seat in the audience? Has this been done before? I told her she best not take that job. She was surprised but took my advice.

Wouldn’t surprise me. I know that Gold used to hire extras all the time for IAS and other event videos. They would put them in an old third world class room and have them smile while holding up TWTH or Dianetics books.

The photoshopping they were caught at:

Washington Post article about it:

Sea org members were always as far back as I can remember, required to dress up in Uniform K (civvies) and pack the audience. In many of the protest videos you can see the Sea Org busses at PAC and Flag dropping off staff at events. (BTW, the all hands call-in and forced attendance at the events is no excuse for not getting your stats up anyway. AND you better not get caught eating the food that is meant for the public either, even though the money for that food came in part out of the crew food budget so you are probably hungry.)

Scientology lies, and that is all there is to it.

What are these figures of 4 and 8,000?

The event hasn't been held in Aus yet, and they couldn't be an accurate estimation of the world wide attendance, could they?

Who would be able to work it out?

4 and 8000 refer to those attending at St. Hill, not world wide. Be
interesting to hear reports of other locations.

I would be very curious to know how many extras were in that audience. Terril, why don't you call the casting company, chat up the receptionist, and find out how many they sent down there.

Very interesting comment on that blog post:

I attended an event at The Shrine in 95/96. While the lights were still on and people were still taking their seats, I noticed 2 individuals being escorted to their front row seats by (I think) Karen Hollander. One appeared to be Tom Cruise and you would have thought so judging by the striking tall thin fair-skinned woman with the Nicole Kidman red ringlets hair style. However, on scrutinizing her face it was definitely not NK. And the guy, although possessing avery good likeness was not TC.

To say, I found that most odd was an understatement and something that I’ve thought about many times over the years. It was one of those things that opened my eyes to the possibility that things were not as they seemed, but a manipulated pr display.

Hey. Maybe they were getting 50 pounds each and that's what George Baillie had his attention on when he ranted to Axion 142. He was pannicking about getting caught placing the ad and wondering where how the hell he was going to get the money out of GI without it "missing". When along came a spider ...

I was at the supposed photo shopped event and I told the critic that is a falsehood that the event 2K one was empty. It was packed. They made 5 people from each org go world wide and Now I supposed some may have been paid to go. It was the Shrine in LA and yes it was full. So I disagree that it was empty as I was there but I know they made people go and they could have done this as well. Now this make more sense than what that critic refused to correct when I told him I was there. I can even pick myself out in the so called photo shopped pic.

Much as I might enjoy chatting to georgeous "extras", chatting up receptionists, and hiring a casting couch, I actually have no contacts in this area. :(

Have asked the original poster on Marty's blog for details though. :)

Gosh, if they are hiring extras to fill seats, I hope the hirees are
smart enough to get paid in advance and in cash! Further,
I would hope that they are quick and wiley enough to escape the
stadium afterwards without the "regges" taking their hard
earned cash away fom them!

You go to a casting call thinking you are going for an audition and end up at an AMWAY-esque Cult Convention getting worked over to join a cult. ... No that wouldn't suck too bad.

actually there is no doubt it was photoshopped - so the question then becomes why would the cofs put up obviously photoshopped pics when there was a "packed" event?

This is so pathetic. :duh:

I honestly would not have suspected that, it just makes me
