Where did the common sense go?

Peter states that Swedes have been protected (from cults) by their common sense.

It's kind of ironic that the thread title is "Buying into BS" because the idea that common sense protects one against getting sucked into a cult IS BS. It's his opinion which is contradicted by the actual experts who have studied cult recruitment.

People can have an abundance of common sense but can still have moments of vulnerability where they can get sucked into a cult.

We shall not speculate here on why I rose above all the stupid cults
that other senseless suckers stupidly got scammed with.

So, just to make sure I understand---you never agreed,
studied, or participated in any way with any cult whatsoever?

Never! I would never join a stupid cult,
    I'm not that stupid! LOL

Amazing! How did you manage to avoid getting
sucked into some kind of cult like everyone else alive?

Well, to be honest, I just have an aversion to believing in stupid
superstition, wacky woo and bullshit beliefs. I just stick with actual facts.

    Actual facts? Like what?

Like the Bible and the actual word of God[sup]1[/sup].

[sup]1[/sup] Feel free to substitute & insert into this last line any one (1) of the world's top 100,000 cult belief systems, whose members do not even remotely suspect are cults.

PRO TIP: An organization doesn't have to call itself a "religion" or even "spiritual", in order to quality as a full blown cult. Some cults call themselves an "applied philosophy" or a "modern science", while others prefer valorous humanitarian positioning like "social justice". There are yet other cults that cloak themselves in visionary geopolitical goals like "a world without war", as promoted by such cults as Scientology. And likewise Sweden, who demonstrated during World War II that there is no reason for countries to fight wars when they got along just fine with Nazi Germany. Swedes have thus scientifically proven that if you don't trigger the leaders of other sovereign nations (e.g. Hitler) and just "deliver what they need and want", they won't bother you.

Common sense is, in fact, quite uncommon.

What most people miss about "cults" is that countless "true believing" cults exist in cloaking other than "religious", "spiritual" or "political".

Many cults are cleverly hidden away in the invisibility of Academia, tenured professors and propagandized text books.

And there are fanatical supremacist race cults like the black-racist "movement" like the Nation of Islam, Black Lives Matter and the Southern Poverty Law Center---an hate group that has cornered the market on declaring hate groups under the gimmick of being a "non-profit charitable" tax-exempt organization that has now amassed ONE-HALF-BILLION dollars in offshore banks.

There is another cult of elite, politically correct scolds who incessantly shame others whilst signaling their own saint-like virtues. If you don't agree and obey and vote for the same candidates that the 98% of this cult votes in lock-step conformity for---they will destroy you with libel, slander and McCarthyesque blacklisting so you never work again. It's call Hollywood.

There are so many other unrecognized cults. I'll name just one more because it reveals how little most people understand the concept of cults. Let's take a 58 year old man who has never joined any cult in his life. All he ever did was work his way through college and work of 40 years to support his family and kids. Then he suddenly gets laid off and goes bankrupt. He cannot even feed his own kids, his house is foreclosed and his car repossessed. What does all this have to do with cults, right?

This poor guy lost everything! And at his age with his limited & outdated skills he is un-hirable.

He got to this place in live because he bought into the cult of "work hard and do what they tell you and you will succeed".

That cult of corporations bedazzled him with the mythology of "work hard for us and we will take care of you and your family forever and then you can comfortably retire".

Life doesn't work like that. He never bothered to do the due-diligence because the cult taught him to "follow the system" and not take risks. So he is thereafter 100% dependent on the corporate cult to survive. Good deal for the cult. Not so good for him when he finds out they are gaming him for all the production they can wring out of him, before they don't need him--at which point they summarily kick him to the curb.

It's not the corporate cult's fault that they are so good at mareting themselves to prospective employees and executives.

The guy never had a clue he was in a PRODUCE & OBEY cult, just like Scientologists are.

It all seems so "safe" when a person is within the cult bubble of happy thoughts.

I am not anti-corporate, not in the least. I am anti-cult.

But the responsibility for not being duped by cults lies fully on the individual.

I mention these things because very few people ever realize that the cultural ecosystem is swarming in every direction with cults competing for people's time, production and money.

Despite conventional thinking, most cult are far more clever than Hubbard was about hiding the fact that they are a cult. Virtually everyone has now discovered that Scientology is a ludicrous criminal cult. But all the other stealth cults that have remained off the radar screen are far better at hiding their cult core and beliefs and activities.

We know it now...but at the very beginning it is sold to us as an easy way (the bridge) to attain total knowledge and freedom (it's like selling a freezer to siberian people)...till we realize 10 years later we lost our life to make it a better life ( the $cientology way...)...broken in all way in all part of us and our life.

You understand life pretty well. Sadly, it takes a lot of living and quite a few hard knocks
to attain the wisdom in that post. Usually it doesn't arrive until way later in life.

There are so many cults -- or worldviews or narratives -- in life to get stuck in or on, it's
amazing. Hard to avoid all of them.

I know in high-tech corporations . . . well, they're all cults of sorts. When you're in there,
you have to "drink the kool-aid" and "eat your own dog food" and "get all religious" as
they joke. Right now, every aspect of Silicon Valley is very cultish. You can't be a "normal
person" in these companies anymore. As if you ever could.

Looking back, I was pretty stupid and bumbling most of my life. Then I got pretty wise
later on. I have a feeling that's the common human condition. I don't know of any shortcuts.

(I once thought Scientology was a shortcut, THE shortcut. We know how that turned out.)

I wish there were do overs. You know, you're twenty again and know what you know now.
    That old adage.

I tried to come up with just one (1) word to capture what you described; but, I discovered that in the case of Scientology it requires three (3).

Miscavige doesn't "get" this. He actually pronounces it as "Dianeticsscientology" whereas Hubbard kept them separate and distinct, premises and all, and used Dianetics as a front group lead in like Narconon, etc.

Hubbard marketed Scientology to Scientologists after he reclaimed Dianetics.

Miscavige was raised under that shroud so he doesn't get it.

The public doesn't want responsibility, Xenu, overts, withholds, space opera, doll bodies, Marcabs, body thetans, intergalactic conspiracies, etc.

They're fine with engrams and dog bites.

The stupid dissem film that ends with "You can jump off a building or blow your brains out" is a perfect example of how to turn people away.

If I could, I would raise the voting age to 60.

That would give voters a chance to acquire some wisdom before heading to the voting booth.

And it would give us some decades before the millennials and Generation Z (who love AOC) come of voting age.

It would be OK as the voting age is now IF our schools actually educated students instead of indoctrinating them in a bunch of bullshit.

I watched part of Mark Levin's show a few days ago when he had Bill Bennett on, who served as Secretary of Education during the Reagan administration. Bennett basically said that when he does lectures these days at schools he finds the students have not been taught real history, including about socialism. And while schools aren't doing well teaching reading and math, the worst subject is History!

Around the 7 minute mark of the video he also talks about the NEA (National Education Association). The NEA says that schools are

This is why cults are allowed to flourish and prosper, they serve as cover for the massive cult most people are already in that they call "Normal".

It isn't normal not to follow this cult so more deranged cults are allowed to propagate their doctrine to help hide the massive cult.

The massive cult is out to consume everyone to be obedient to the dictates of the ruling cult, the cult of cults.

The saying goes, "No one is more hopelessly enslaved than those who believe they are normal free."

Some cults are very hard to spot.

    The best cults are like
    Russian Stacking Dolls. . .

Because within the big cult there are
    smaller and smaller cults inside.

For example, there is the big cult called "Scientology".

Inside that cult of engram-erasers is hidden a cult of BT-blowers.

Within that cult hides an even more bizarre bureaucratic band of billion-year-buffoons.

Delving deeper inside, we discover the cult known as the office-of-sociopathic-attackers (OSA).

Within each diminutively devolving DB doll body is yet a smaller being, all the way down the the last one, where we find a maniacally-mental-maritime-mockup-messiah.

PRO TIP TO CULT CUSTOMERS: Buyers never really discover that very last and dinkiest-demented-dictator until their very last day in the COS (Cult of Scientology).
