The Dunes Summer Theater Presents:

Squeeze My Cans

Written and performed by Cathy Schenkelberg
Directed by Shirley Anderson
Limited Engagement
August 19-21, 26-28
Fridays & Saturdays at 7pm CDT/Sundays at 6pm CDT

Have you ever considered what it might be like to audition to be Tom Cruise’s girlfriend? Take a rare and highly entertaining peek into a bizarre world in Squeeze My Cans, showcasing at the Dunes Summer Theater. Schenkelberg shares her experience behind the velvet curtain of Scientology in this strangely hilarious and unbelievable story of resilience, loss, and extraterrestrials. Squeeze My Cans runs August 19-21 and August 26-28 at The Dunes Summer Theater (288 Shady Oak Drive, Michigan City).

The Church of Scientology, America’s foremost intergalactic and secretive theology, had Cathy for 14 years. It took another 5 years to leave them behind in the face of harassing phone calls, midnight knocks on her door by “outreach” staffers, an expensive custody battle and social rejection.

Squeeze My Cans asks audiences: What do you do if the “carrot of spiritual freedom” was dangled in front of you, waiting to be seized? In this cautionary tale, we learn what chasing the “carrot” got Cathy Shenkelberg, and how after studying and searching to become “more herself,” she could be found blowing alien life forms off her body farther than ever from the person who she had hoped to be.

Squeeze My Cans is tight, smart and hilariously funny – keeping the WTF moments entirely in the realm of comedy, even though they are not – and far from it. Now she is sharing the story in this no-holds-barred cautionary tale of how she survived the pseudoscience.

Squeeze My Cans received its first developmental workshop production at Lifeline’s Filet of Solo Festival.

Solo play lifts curtain on Scientology

A one-woman play that made its way from a sold-out run in Chicago to Michigan City offers a rare glimpse into Scientology.

Cathy Schenkelberg, who’s been on the national tour of “Hair” and portrayed Pepper the Clown on "The Bozo Show," will perform “Squeeze My Cans” between Aug. 19 and 28 at The Dunes Summer Theater, 288 Shady Oak Drive.

Schenkelberg’s autobiographical play just finished a sold-out run at the Greenhouse Theater in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. She wrote and performs the cautionary tale about how she was searching to “become more herself” and was led astray.

“Squeeze My Cans” will be performed at 7 p.m. Aug. 19, 20, 26 and 27, and at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 and 28.
