More Phenomenon ...

I've had two several years long periods of "lucid dreaming" - often becoming extreme lucid dreaming, where not only was I aware that I was dreaming, but also deliberately and systematically explored the experience (realms?), and sometimes, in my opinion, this was more than merely dreaming, but became out of body experience, which is notable especially when one knows it is occurring and can do things with it. It can become very interesting.

I'm sure that I've experienced "sleep paralysis," but it didn't bother me, as I was separate from my physical body, and it was "over there" and of no special concern. For me, the skill of remaining cognizant while stepping outside ones "normal reality" - into a completely separate "reality" or "space" - while also maintaining (background) awareness of ones physical body identity, the location of ones physical body, the date on Earth, etc., is key. One might say it's the art of being able to be - comfortably - in two places ("planes of existence"?) at the same time.

Usually, a person is aware of one "reality" at a time. Being able to be aware of two separate "realities" (spaces, or "planes") at the same time, and also be aware of oneself, and know what one is doing, is a worthwhile skill. (But hard to explain!)

Of course, dreams are usually merely dreams, but this largely unexplored area of consciousness can be - from my own experience - very very strange, and it can be exciting.

There's much more to it, but these quickly assembled links may be of some interest:

I would only add that, IMO, there is nothing to fear.

The last part of this post discusses briefly the odd subject of OOBEs and telephone wires:
