To lie or not to lie, that is the question all scientologists must ask themselves. Surprisingly, they reach this decision easily and quickly. To lie. But why?
Let's take a look at the big, big picture first. For over a half century, Scientology has promised the lofty state of CLEAR and, beyond that, the transcendent state of OPERATING THETAN and eventually... TOTAL FREEDOM.
Most everyone who has spent time in the amusement park called ScientologyWorld eventually figures out that the grand mystical adventure is really only some ordinary "rides" in an earthbound theme park. At the end of the day you board a tram with everyone else, get shuttled to the parking lot, get in your car and drive home. Some people stay for the weekend, perhaps even come back again, or end up working there. But all the rides are contained within the park, none of them actually go anywhere.
What would really happen if the state of OPERATING THETAN was really true? Honestly, if just one single person in the past 60 years had actually become an OPERATING THETAN, is there any slightest doubt that the Church of Scientology would have:
1) recorded it in every conceivable way on film and video for purposes of authentication.
2) provided live demonstrations under controlled conditions for scientific verification by an independent consortium of recognized experts and institutions.
3) promoted the miracles endlessly by selling books, tapes, DVDs, seminars, courses, etc.
4) unleashed a mass-media barrage to announce to the world the single greatest scientific and spiritual discovery in recorded history via radio, television, talk shows, magazines, newspapers, advertisements, etc.
Just one (1) single OPERATING THETAN demonstrating any old kind of OT ability would have done the trick. Exterior perception, levitation, creation of matter or energy, destruction of matter or energy, etc. That single OT showing off for a few hours would have been exponentially more valuable than the hundreds of millions of dollars that Scientology has spent promoting itself for all these decades.
One lone OT would have actually caused the worldwide expansion that Scientology has been pretending to have. An international avalanche of new people trying to get auditing and training would be lined up around the block. Hundreds of billions of dollars would have been banked and the hard sales courses for registrars would have been replaced with a three minute course in how to ring up a cash register. No need to sell anyone anything when they throw their money at you.
Is there any conceivable reason Scientology would not have promoted their own product, an OPERATING THETAN, if it was true? If you are still thinking that there is some reason Ron gave about not doing "parlor tricks" then here is a hint. Life doesn't work like that. When you claim to have miraculous technology to save the entire world, heal disease, cure insanity, stop war and criminality and release every man, woman and child from degradation and entrapment, then you are happy to provide some proof of this to encourage them to let you help them be saved for eternity. Right?
Okay, remember, we are talking about why Scientology lies.
They have to lie because....... because Scientology can not do any of the miraculous things it claims. Never could.
So, instead of just showing the world what a CLEAR can do...
Instead of putting a live event on TV for everyone in the world that shows an OPERATING THETAN in action, they have to lie.
Lie about the results. Lie about the critics. Lie about the policies of the Church like Fair Game and Disconnection (both of which are obviously there to cover up the big lie that they can make a CLEAR or OT).
Scientologists lie to others (and themselves until they wake up) because there is no Bridge to Total Freedom. There is no Clear. There is no OT. These are just words. Not one person, Hubbard included, ever reached these mythical places.
If they don't lie, they figure, they will go out of business (which is not true, they would just become an ordinary self-help group like Tony Robbins, Deepak Chopra, Jenny Craig and others).
If they don't lie, they figure, they will lose all hope as an individual. (which is not true because hope is not based on lies, it is based on seeking truth)
So, that's it in a nutshell, they lie because they can't afford to tell the truth, they think.
