The Guardian: Socialist Anne Hidalgo expected to become first female mayor of Paris
http://www.theguardian.com/world/20...nne-hidalgo-first-female-mayor-paris-election

Excerpt:
By the end of the month – barring a physical or political earthquake – Paris will have its first Madame le Maire.

If the polls are accurate, the Socialist candidate Anne Hidalgo will get the keys to the city and the 150 sq metre mayoral office at the French capital's imposing Hôtel de Ville on the banks of the Seine.

Her centre-right rival, the former ecology minister Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, is far enough behind in the polls to make a comeback in the two rounds of voting this weekend and next unlikely, although not impossible.

Anti-cults fight

In 2005, Hidalgo took a stand in the debate on
cults in France, becoming the president of a committee of vigilance against the cults at the Mairie de Paris. She was especially opposed to the Church of Scientology and New Acropolis and participated in a demonstration in front of the Scientology's premises.[SUP][5][/SUP][SUP][6][/SUP] At that time, a map of the cults in Paris, established by the Mairie de Paris and promoted by Anne Hidalgo, was controversial[SUP][7][/SUP] and Hidalgo had to submit a complaint against X for the diffusion on the Internet of a leaflet signed by a "committee to support Anne Hidalgo" which requested to denounce "non-compliant behaviors".[SUP][6][/SUP] Anne Hidalgo denies any link with the supposed support committee. However, her complaint was dismissed.[SUP][8][/SUP]

I am liking the trend. More exposure of scientology connections in the field of politics and government organizations. Whatever one's persuasion the more transparency the better especially if the public purse use is being influenced. Without question the tax payer deserves transparency and accountability.

Tony Ortega: Paris elects its first female mayor — and you have to see her record on Scientology!

Yesterday, Paris elected its first woman mayor, Anne Hidalgo. But as our man in France Jonny Jacobsen explains, she has a lot more interest for us here in the Underground Bunker than the fact that she’s female and from Spain…

Paris has, not surprisingly, elected another socialist mayor.

Anne Hidalgo succeeds her colleague Bernard Delanoë, having served as his lieutenant through his two-term tenure since 2001.

But Underground Bunker regulars will be most interested in her position on the question of les sectes in general — and Scientology in particular.

She’s not a fan.

Even in a country that has a cross-party animosity to Scientology, Hidalgo has marked herself out as a particularly vocal campaigner.

3) She’s really, really against Scientology. In 2005, Hidalgo served as the head of a committee that monitored what the government calls “cultlike groups” groups, including, in this case, the Church of Scientology. She even participated in a protest at the Paris’ offices of the organization.
